The Partners in Learning parent feedback survey The survey asks parents and carers questions about different factors that are known to impact on student wellbeing and engagement. We really need parents to take part in this survey. At present, only 6% of our parents have completed the survey. Running this survey will help our school understand parents’ and carers’ perspectives on their child’s experience at school. These include communication between parents/carers and staff, activities and practices at home and parent/carer views on the school's support of learning and behaviour. This valuable feedback will help our school make practical improvements. The survey is conducted entirely online at home or on public computers. The survey typically will take 15 minutes or less to complete and is completely confidential. The parent survey will be conducted between 27 August and 26 October. Participating in the survey is voluntary; however, your responses are very much appreciated. Jersey Day 2019 Jersey day this year was a little wet but we did not let that deter our enthusiasm and support for the Jersey Day initiative. Jersey Day was established after Nathan Gremmo tragically lost his life in an accident in 2015, but his family gave the gift of life to others through organ donation. Our students looked resplendent in a sea of different coloured ‘Jerseys’ as we participated in this event.

Kindergarten, Year 1 & Year 2 at the Zoo The students had the best day washing elephants, patting kangaroos and snakes, and sleeping on the bus on the way home. Thank you to all our parent helpers who gave up a day to be with 120 5- 8 year olds all day. Thanks to Mrs Holland for all her wonderful organisation. Great job.

CAMP is going WELL!!! I would like to congratulate all of the stage three students who are in Canberra this week. ALL children are being exceptionally well-behaved. They are all having a great time! We will see them tomorrow night around 6:00pm.

Become involved in your child’s education. Enjoy learning! Lyn Pearce Principal

Dear Glenorie Public School

I am writing to you after receiving a soldier’s care package recently from one of your Grade 6 students, Mia.

It is the end of my fourth month of a seven month rotation to the Sinai Peninsula in eastern Egypt. My job here is to train the Fijian army personnel here providing security to the Multinational Force & Observers, to improve relationships with our Pacific Ocean Neighbours.

I am very pleased to receive such an awesome gift from her with all with many of my favorite things such as Maltesers, Tic Tacs, toothpaste (much needed after these lollies), Arnotts shapes and absolutely my most favorite of all time VEGEMITE!!

I would also like to thank you and Mia from the Fijians that received some of your care packages! We had such a huge number of care packages that came in we couldn’t keep let alone eat them all and so shared them around with the Fijians and Colombians we work closely with!! Please find below the picture we took handing them out to the Fijians. I’m on the far right in uniform after explaining where they had come from and why we wanted to share them.

Again thank you VERY much from myself and the other soldiers I shall be sharing these items with. A taste of home is always very appreciated.

On my return in November, I would very much like the chance to come to the school and thank you in person, if the school would like and or allow this please let me know via this email address. I live in Oyster Bay and work out of Sutherland, NSW.

If there is any questions please let me know.

Regards

Chris Hayden

We are proud to announce that this year we will be introducing The Great Book Swap to Glenorie Public School. The Great Book Swap is an initiative of The Indigenous Literacy Foundation and aims to celebrate reading in our great school, and raise much-needed funds for remote communities.

What happens with the funds we collect?

Since its inception, The Indigenous Literacy Foundation has gifted over 350,000 books to over 280 communities, and published 90 community stories, that reflect 18 Aboriginal languages. They work closely with communities across Australia to create more books for the younger generation.

So how will the Great Book Swap work at Glenorie?

Starting from next week, we would ask that students bring into school some books that they would like to donate to the cause. We ask that the books be appealing to the same age group as your child, and that they be in excellent condition. The will be collected by classroom teachers and then transferred to the library. On Tuesday 29th October and Wednesday 30th October the Library will have tables of donated books displayed. Students will be asked to contribute a gold coin donation, and will take a book from the table to take home and keep, hence the title, Great Book Swap.

We are really excited about this new and very important venture. Please encourage your child to think about this great cause, bring in a book or two from home to donate and contribute a gold coin to the library event.
