Mayor’sWelcome
It is with great pleasure that I invite senior residents of Glen Eira to take part in this year’s Seniors Festival. This year’s theme Go for it epitomises that the festival is the perfect opportunity for all senior members of our community to take part in a range of activities available throughout the Festival.
Over the month of October, Glen Eira City Council will host a range of events and activities that celebrate the diversity of our senior residents and promote healthy ageing.
The Glen Eira Seniors Festival is a wonderful opportunity to demonstrate our commitment to our senior residents. In this brochure you will find details of concerts, seminars, walking tours, talks, library activities and social and physical activities conducted by both council and community groups. Activities will be held throughout the municipality highlighting the diverse interests that shape the lives of our senior citizens.
I encourage you, your friends and family to participate in the wide variety of cultural, social, physical and intellectual pursuits across our City.
I thank the various community groups who will open their doors and welcome new senior residents to join in their activities.
There is definitely something for everyone in this year’s program and I look forward to seeing you in October. Remember to Go for it and celebrate the 2019 Seniors Festival in Glen Eira.

Love Cosies: The Tea Cosy project is an initiative of Celebrate Ageing. The project has recently been an opportunity for local preschool children to share their thoughts about an older person in their life. The result is a display of pictures words and drawings that offer older people the opportunity to feel the warmth and love that others have for them.
Residents are invited to visit the display and children can have fun at the craft bench creating their own Love Cosy picture to add to the display or take home to a loved older person.

inhabitants of the area, the Boon Wurrung people of the Kulin nation.
Guided by a representative of the Boon Wurrung Foundation we will be taken on a journey through the First Nation people’s way of life, which included harvesting plants, fishing and hunting. The botanical element outlines the native plant life that was abundant before European settlement.

Presented by Nurse Next Door, The Power of Happier Ageing provides proven ways to enhance well-being and is presented by their team of highly qualified nurses and carers.
The one hour workshop includes activities such as:• finding out how old you would be
(if you didn’t know how old you are!);
• understanding the difference between a fixed and growth mindset;
• practising the three steps towards identifying and tackling challenges with a sense of possibility;
• identifying daily opportunities to practise intentional happiness; and
• learning simple meditation and mindfulness techniques.
Everyone leaves with a happiness tool kit — information and resources to continue practising what has been learnt during the workshop.
