President’s messaGe
I hope everyone had a wonderful Holiday season. NOW LET THE
FUN BEGIN. November and December had to be the busiest “early season” in years. If that was an indication, 2014 will be an exciting year around the Club. There are many new activities planned and I encourage everyone’s participation in all the events. We have new calendars available in the office showing all the 2014 golf and social events pick yours up and make your plans early.
As we near the completion of the Divot area projects, please continue to use caution when traveling in the area. The BOD asks for your continued cooperation when driving. Speeding and stop sign violations appear to have improved but unfortunately we still have a few problems. Please do your part to make our roads safe for everyone.
Should you have ideas that you feel might be helpful in improving Glen Eagle, we would appreciate you sharing those with any BOD members. Our monthly meetings are held on the third Tuesday of each month at 3PM in the Activity Room. Please plan on attending-your input is appreciated.
As always,
Life is good!Mark Yegge,President
GeneralManager’s
CornerThe new fitness building should be
completed in early February and we will be working this month towards that goal. New fitness equipment has been ordered and pieces from our current fitness room will be relocated. We will be sprucing up the Divot snack bar building at the same time. We hope to have the Bocce Ball courts operational in February also.
As of early December the club has performed well financially YTD, and is better to budget, which should allow us to close out the year 2013 in good shape. All revenue generating departments have seen strong increases this fall over the previous year. The weather has cooperated nicely for us, allowing strong golf participation, which creates strong F & B sales.
This month those interested in running for the Board of Directors need to notify the Administration Office of their intent. We will be electing 3 Directors. If you didn’t receive the First Notice of Annual Meeting please let us know and we will send it to you.
The Board has appointed an ad hoc committee to look at possible alternatives to Comcast. Our current agreement with Comcast expires in April of 2015, a year away. But if we find a better alternative, we will need to commit to the new company a year in advance so they can do the required infrastructure upgrades. We will keep you apprised of their investigation.
Please remember that you are my eyes and ears to Glen Eagle. Since I can’t be everywhere all the time please let me know of things that need attention. A short email or phone call will do.
My door is always open,
Peter Costello,General Manager

News from the Golf Shop!I want to thank all the members for a very suc-
cessful Holiday Sale in December, a great time was had by all.
May we be the first to wish all of the owners and ten-ants at Glen Eagle a happy and prosperous New Year and welcome to 2014. I hope everyone had a wonder-ful holiday season with the ones you love. We also want to welcome the many tenants with golf privileges that are arriving here at Glen Eagle and encourage you to stop by the pro shop and meet my staff.
Our annual Sadie Hawkins Day event is set for Saturday, Jan. 11th with an 8:30 a.m. shotgun and a luncheon to follow. Ladies grab a gentleman, but not your spouse or significant other, and play in our fun tournament. This year’s event will be 18 holes of better
ball of partners. Sign up will begin on December 11th. All players must have a handicap that is active here at Glen Eagle.
Our match play championships will be replaced by the President’s Cup. It will remain a match play event – net format. This event will begin the week of January 13th. There will be 1 flight and you will play your matches based on a difference in handicap. You are allowed to choose any tee you would like to play for the event; however you must play that same tee throughout the event. Sign-up will start on Wednesday, December 11th and run until January 9th. Brack-ets will then be posted on Saturday, January 11th. See Michael in Golf Shop for more infor-mation and to find out how you can become the FIRST PRESIDENT’S CUP CHAMPION!

GOLF COURSE ETIqUETTE 101
You already know this stuff, but sometimes a reminder is a good idea. When you take care of your course, it makes the game more enjoyable for everyone.
BUNKERS
Before leaving a bunker, players should carefully fill up and smooth over all holes and footprints made by them and any nearby made by others. If a rake is within reasonable proximity of the bunker, the rake should be used for this purpose.
Repair of Divots, Ball-Marks and Damage by
SHOES
Players should carefully repair any divot holes made by them and any damage to the putting green made by the impact of a ball (whether or not made by the player himself ). On completion of the hole by all players in the group, damage to the putting green caused by golf shoes should be repaired.
PREVENTING UNNECESSARY DAMAGE
Players should avoid causing damage to the course by removing divots when taking practice swings or by hitting the head of a club into the ground, whether in anger or for any other reason.
Players should ensure that no damage is done to the putting green when putting down bags or the flagstick.
In order to avoid damaging the hole, players and caddies should not stand too close to the hole and should take care during the handling of the flagstick and the removal of a ball from the hole.
The head of a club should not be used to remove a ball from the hole.
Players should not lean on their clubs when on the putting green, particularly when removing the ball from the hole.
The flagstick should be properly replaced in the hole before players leave the putting green.
Remember….it’s a game, it’s supposed to be fun. Lacey and I look forward to seeing you on the course.
Steve Huffstutler,CGCS, Superintendent
from tHe Greens
4 The Eagle | January 2014
A good time was had by all those who participated in the Member/Member activities in December and the weather cooperated nicely. The “Life is a Beach” Kick Off partiers sported some creative tropical attire! A crowd favorite was Chris Rosenheim in her coconuts….be sure to catch all the photos on our Facebook page. Just as creative were many of the flip flops decorated by our members. Congratulations to the Grand Prize winner, Carol Berezin, who won a sunset cruise fot two!
We have three new members to our league since the last luncheon: Lorraine Brady, Anne Carr and Linda MacDonald. We extend a warm welcome to them!
We are all looking forward to our Jan. 14th Bosom Buddy event with the 9 Hole Ladies. Donations will be accepted that day for Bosom Buddies Breast Cancer Support Inc, a locally based organization run solely by volunteers for the support of those facing breast cancer. Your donation will be tax free. We encourage you to wear pink and bring a check! After golf, we will enjoy a Fashion Show during lunch featuring Pro Shop fashions.
The Executive Board wishes each and every one of you a Happy and Healthy 2014!
Diane True, President
Happy New Year to all our 9 Hole La-dies! The second half of the 2013-2014 golf season is upon us and I am sure it will be as successful as the first half. We have enjoyed the Welcome Back Lunch, the wonderful well attended Invitation-al and the Holiday Brunch. We now look forward to many new and exciting
lunches ahead of us. Plans for our Wine and Cheese, our member - member, and of course the Championship Play off should keep us motivated to sharpen our golf game and keep swinging. Of course many of our 9 hole members who were not with us in the fall will be returning in January. This will bring our membership up to well over 100 players. Jeanne, our Assistant Pro, will help to keep us informed of rules and regu-lations. So get ready for a fun-filled winter and spring with our many golf friends.
Respectfully submitted: Elena M. Flynn, President

Good Food, Fine Wines& Great CompanyHappy New Year! We hope that everyone enjoyed their hol-
idays with traveling, family and friends. Thank you all so much for the holiday goodies and bonuses. We truly appreciate working for and with such wonderful people.
The F&B Department had a fantastic year financially. We have done more revenue and volume than any previ-ous years. I’m sure this year’s line-up of events will prove to be another record

Tennis Talk with RetoAs we bring in the new year of 2014, it’s time to play some
more tennis and among other things try to defend our Men’s 2013 NETA title! The Women will also have a team that continues to contend in the CTA. Ginny Meyer will captain the Lady Talons, with Carolyn Fleming serving as Co-Captain. They, along with me are still looking for more players and subs. I know there are more players out there! Please contact me or one of our captains if interested in joining the team. On the Men’s side we could also afford to have a few more players agreeing to sub-in if our 8 man count drops. I will have the schedules of both the Men’s and Lady’s Teams available by the third week of January, so if you’re not playing in the match, hopefully you can come out and support our teams during their home contests. Last year we had some small crowds (mostly nervous husbands!) but it was great to see.
This January also marks the 1 year anniversary of our Playmate Ball Machine being a part of our tennis program. I have just replenished the PBM with good balls and the machine is in good condition. It is available for members to use for a small fee paid through the pro shop. The cost is low and benefits are high. If you want a tutorial on the machine, you can visit me at the times I’m at the tennis courts which is, Monday-Saturday 8am-Noon. If you want to just go for it on your own there is a crash course information placard attached to the machine.
You’ve all heard of Andre Agassi right? He perfected his game by hours of use against a ball machine…so it can work!
TENNIS TIP: THE FAKE POACH!This works great when one player is returning serve. To execute the perfect fake, you need loud feet. As your opponent takes back his or her racquet, step loudly to the middle and motion your racquet to the right. Here’s the most important part of the fake poach: Keep your center of balance, because you’re heading back to your starting position very soon! If the returner hits crosscourt to your partner there’s no harm to your team. But if the returner tries to pass you down the line, unless they hit a perfect shot near the doubles sideline, you should get an easy put-away volley. Try your luck at this trick play in your next doubles match and let me know how it goes!
I hope to see you on the courts real soon,
Reto guruswami, GE Tennis Professional

In order to maintain accurate handicaps for all our tour-nament players we have purchased computer software.
This software links Ghin handicap system and the Chelsea tee placement system to verify that those who played posted their score. This sytem greatly reduces the time your handi-cap committee has to spend verifying this information. This system will catch those who don’t post their scores at which time the committee will contact them directly.
All rounds 18 hole, 9 hole and walkers must post every score if they want a verifiable Ghin handicap, which enables them to play in club and association events.
USGA rules for posting a score when you didn’t complete a round (see section 4-2 and 5-1a) are as follow:
If 13 or more holes are played, the player must post an 18 hole score.
If 7 to 12 holes are played they must post a 9 hole score.
In each case the remaining nfinished holes must be recorded as par plus any handicap strokes that the player is entitled to receive on the unplayed holes.
Example: A player with a course handicap of 30 stops playing after 16 holes because of darkeness. Hole 17 is a par 3 and is the number 18 handicap - stroke hold. The player will record
3 (par) plus 1 handicap stroke for an x-4 on hole 17. Hole 18 is a par 4 and is the number 12 handicap-stroke hole. the player will record 4 (par) plus 2 handicap strokes for an x-6 on hole 18.
The USGA mandates enforcement of the rules by the handi-cap committee or it could lead to Glen Eagle becoming un-recognized by the USGA. The Handicap Chairperson and the Golf Committee have established the following penalities for those who don’t post a score.
1. Players that haven’t posted a score withing 48 hours of playing will receive a warning to post their score.
2. The second time that player will be penalized the lowest of their last 20 scores.
3. The third time they wiell be penalized again as above and will be suspended from a Ghin handicap and club events until a eview by the Golf Committee and Head Profes-sional.
For detailed information on the handicaps please visit www.handi-caphandbook.com
Your cooperation is appreciated and expected.
