As you prepare for vacations of your own, may you be inspired to take some time and truly get away to allow God to replenish you in mind, body, and spirit. Here is a reflection given a few years ago by Pope Emeritus Benedict XVI. It still holds so much truth: “In the world in which we live, the need to be physically and mentally replenished has become as it were essential, especially to those who dwell in cities where the often frenzied pace of life leaves little room for silence, reflection and relaxing contact with nature. Moreover, holidays are days on which we can give even more time to prayer, reading and meditation on the profound meaning of life in the peaceful context of our own family and loved ones. The vacation period affords unique opportunities for reflection as we face the stirring views of nature, a marvelous “book” within the reach of everyone, adults or children. In contact with nature, individuals rediscover their proper dimension, they recognize that they are creatures but at the same time unique, “capable of God” since they are inwardly open to the Infinite. Driven by the heartfelt need for meaning that urges them onwards, they perceive the mark of goodness and divine Providence in the world that surrounds them and open themselves almost spontaneously to praise and prayer.” Benedict XVI, Angelus, 17 July 2005 “We have begun the summer period: many leave for a bit of relaxation; vacation is a moment in which we are also able to be in Jesus’ company for a longer time, or to reread a few pages of the Gospel, to relax.” Pope Francis July 13, 2014 Vacation Time!

WWCCR VISION AND MISSION

Vision:That all Catholics mature in a personal

relationship with Jesus, empowered by the Holy Spirit, to the glory of God the Father.

Mission:Our mission is to renew the face of the earth by nurturing and inspiring Catholics:v To experience a personal relationship with Jesus Christ through baptism in the Holy Spirit

v To fan into flame the gifts we receive through the Sacraments

v To develop a deeper life of prayer and worship

Dear Brothers and Sisters, There are so many reasons to proclaim to the world, “God is good, all the time.” These are the words that I use to describe how God provided a replacement for our beloved Bobbie Brown, the Healing Mass Coordinator for over 15 years. We prayed and we now know that God had been preparing Debora Johnston for this position for quite some time. As you will read in her testimony below, she was touched by God at a WWCCR Healing Mass many years ago, but I will let her tell you her story. I introduce to you, Debora Johnston!

+ Sue*****

In the early 1990s my three sons and I had been attending a community church for a year when I began getting restless. I loved the music but felt something was missing. In 1994 I was invited to attend a WWCCR Healing Mass. Although I didn’t know what that meant, I accepted. I was encouraged to be open to whatever God might want to do in my life that night. No problem! I sat in the pew and immediately

felt totally captured by the peace I experienced and a presence I’d never known. Mass began and the music I heard was the most beautiful sound, I thought angels were singing. Throughout Mass the priest invited us to pray for our intentions. He said that God can heal anything but often chooses to heal the heart. So that’s what I asked for. After Mass, when I was prayed with, I felt the most profound heat radiate across my chest. In that moment, God, who had just been “out there somewhere,” suddenly became tangibly present within me. I knew that He heard me, the cry of my heart, and that He knew me. What my soul had been hungering for was satisfied. I met Love and I was home. Whatever I was invited to next, I went to: a charismatic prayer group, Healing Masses, Life in the Spirit Seminars, prayer for healing, you name it. I had this insatiable thirst for more. Those people had something and I wanted it. We continued going to the Protestant church on Sundays, afraid to pull the boys from what was familiar. However, one Sunday morning, as we were getting ready to go to church, something was different.

From Sue’s Desk In silence, I shared with God the desire of my heart. Immediately after that conversation with God, my oldest son asked if we could go to the Catholic church instead. Wow,

I remember thinking, God is amazing. So, tha t morn ing we headed off to the Catholic church. I felt totally like a fish

out of water by the end of Mass, but I knew God was there -- and where He was, I wanted to be. So I asked Him to make it right with my kids. In almost that same moment, my boys stopped, clogged up the aisle, and asked if that could be our church. Isaiah 65:24 says: “Before they call, I will answer; while they are yet speaking, I will hear.” Oh how He loves us! We began RCIA and RCIC and entered the Catholic Church in 1995. Some 21 years later, God asks me to return to where my healing began. It is with great joy that I accept the call to coordinate WWCCR Healing Masses, to plan opportunities for others to encounter the great Healer. Every Eucharistic celebration offers possibilities, if we’re open! I am a life that was changed and forever I will praise and give thanks!

GLEANINGS 3

“Why are you a man of hope?”Cardinal Leo Suenens (1904-1996), former Archbishop of Brussels-Malines, Belgium and one of the four moderators of the Second Vatican Council, was also the first cardinal appointed by the Vatican to give encour-agement and pastoral guidance to the Renewal. He was once asked “Why are you a man of hope, despite the confusion in which we find ourselves today?” This same question could be posed to each of us today! Here is his response:

Because I believe that God is born anew each morning, because I believe that he is creating the world at this very moment. He did not create it at a distant and long-forgotten moment in time.

It is happening now: we must be ready therefore to expect the unexpected from God.

The ways of Providence are by nature surprising.

We are not prisoners of determinism, nor of the somber prognostications of sociologists.

God is here, near us, unforeseeable and loving.

I am a man of hope, not for human reasons nor from any natural optimism.

But because I believe the Holy Spirit is at work in the Church and in the world, even where God’s name remains unheard.

I am an optimist because I believe the Holy Spirit is the Spirit of creation.

To those who welcome the Holy Spirit, he gives each day fresh liberty, renewed joy and trust.

The long history of the Church is filled with the wonders of the Holy Spirit.

Think only of the prophets and saints, who, in times of darkness, have discovered the spring of grace and shed beams of light on our path.

I believe in the surprises of the Holy Spirit.

John XXIII came as a surprise, and the Council, too. They were the last things we expected.

Who would dare to say that the love and imagination of God were exhausted?

To hope is a duty, not a luxury.

To hope is not a dream, but to turn dreams into reality.

Happy are those who dream dreams and are ready to pay the price to make them come true.

Pentecost, 1974(from Cardinal Leo Suenens’ book: A New Pentecost? page xii of the Preface)

May we all be men and women of Hope!

Financial update Virginia King recently spoke at an All-WWCCR-Committee teaching day and her message was one for us all: “WWCCR is an organization that gives structure and a focal point to Catholic Charismatic Renewal in this Archdiocese, but it is not here so much to serve Catholic Charismatic Renewal as it is to enable everyone who is involved in the Renewal to serve the Church (in its primary mission of Evangelization). WWCCR is all of Catholic Charismatic Renewal serving the Church, rather than a few people serving the Renewal. The Church needs the Renewal, so that her members will be empowered to spread the Good News to a world that is dying to hear it!” This is the mission that you are supporting with your monthly donation. Permit No. 4246Be Docile to the Holy Spirit According to the Oxford English Dictionary, the word docile means: “apt to be taught; ready and willing to receive instruction; teachable.” For us to live as disciples of Jesus and grow in the life in the Spirit we must continually be open to being taught. Even though we may have gone through various teaching courses, there is always something new to learn. This is an exciting part of our journey of faith. There are a few opportunities for learning coming up in this next year that WWCCR will either be sponsoring or hosting. Take a look at page 4 of this issue for information about the ICCRS Leadership Training Course next April. This course is an amazing week of teaching and also an opportunity to experience community in a new way through the interaction with participants from all over the world (because of the importance of building community there will not be a commuter option for this event). We will also be sponsoring a New Pentecost Rally and a Teaching Day for those who are leaders, helpers in a prayer group or ministry, or potential leaders. We have an exciting speaker coming so stay tuned for more information. Take some time this summer to grow in being docile to the Holy Spirit. Allow our Lord to teach you through scripture, spiritual writings of the saints or doctors of the Church, or spending time at the feet of Jesus in the Blessed Sacrament. Teach us, O Lord, Your ways! ~ts
