Teen Summer Expedition to Japan July 1 – 18, 2016 This exciting GLEAN research expedition to JAPAN is for adventurous and curious teenagers who have a certain taste for any aspect of Japanese culture. You have the unique opportunity to explore your topic in Tokyo and Kyoto/other rural regions by developing your own independent research project. Interested in learning more about fashion, puppet theatre, dance, anime, ramen noodles, farming techniques, pop culture, architecture, or ceramics? APPLY NOW! By exploring topics relating to their core values or interests, participants will learn more about who they are and what they'd like to do or be in this world. All research topics are feasible and include multi- perspectives. They will receive help with this and all steps in the research process... an invaluable skill to acquire! Ideal Candidates This personalized expedition will accommodate only 6-12 teenagers. Depending on the applicant pool, this expedition could be coed. Teenagers from all backgrounds and countries may apply. We prefer a diverse group. We seek to compose a team that inspires, champions, respects, challenges, holds a place of safety and acceptance for, and brings levity to its members. About GLEAN: Suzanne Lettrick Ed.M., M.Ed, educator, researcher, and founder of GLEAN (gleansworld.com) in Ross. Since 2000, GLEAN facilitates summer research expeditions to remote areas of the world. Ms. Lettrick and her team co-craft real world learning experiences that demand communication and problem solving skills. Her expeditions are focused on research projects that each student designs through the unique GLEAN process. Participants conduct interviews, collect data and learn how to do quantitative research. Ms. Lettrick is committed to developing life long learners, arming students with skills needed to succeed in their lives.
