As of Sept., 1, 2012, rates will increase by $2 per day and $10 per week. The fees for child care at GLCDC have not increased in a couple of years. Unfortu- nately our operating costs have increased, making it necessary to raise our rates a bit. Fees for Rams Club students will increase a little less — 25 cents per hour and $1 per week — because those rates did go up about a year ago. Albert Einstein supposedly said: “Everybody is a genius. But if you judge a fish by its ability to climb a tree, it will live its whole life be- lieving that it is stupid.” As the parents and teachers of young children, what does this mean to us? Very simply, it means that every child at the Great Lakes Child Development Center is a genius … BUT, each child has his or her own special abilities and talents. For example, Billy could count to 500 before he was 3 years old. Susie can’t count to 50, but she CAN write all of her letters and spell out the names of every child in her class. If you feel like your child doesn’t measure up to the other kids in class, don’t worry about it. Change your perspective. Pay attention to your child’s interests. Every child is a genius, but just like we can’t ex- pect fish to climb trees, we can’t expect every child to have the same skills. Embrace your child, and especially embrace what makes your child unique and special. “Fish in a tree? How can that be?” - Dr. Seuss Every child is unique and special

Rate changes coming in September With this month’s newsletter you will find an updated list of our daily and weekly

fees. As of Sept., 1, 2012, rates will increase by $2 per day and $10 per week.

The fees for child care at GLCDC have not increased in a couple of years. Unfortu-

nately our operating costs have increased, making it necessary to raise our rates a bit.

Fees for Rams Club students will increase a little less — 25 cents per hour and $1

per week — because those rates did go up about a year ago.

Albert Einstein supposedly said: “Everybody is a genius. But if

you judge a fish by its ability to climb a tree, it will live its whole life be-

lieving that it is stupid.”

As the parents and teachers of young children, what does this

mean to us?

Very simply, it means that every child at the Great Lakes Child

Development Center is a genius … BUT, each child has his or her own

special abilities and talents.

For example, Billy could count to 500 before he was 3 years old.

Susie can’t count to 50, but she CAN write all of her letters and spell out

the names of every child in her class.

If you feel like your child doesn’t measure up to the other kids in

class, don’t worry about it. Change your perspective. Pay attention to

your child’s interests. Every child is a genius, but just like we can’t ex-

pect fish to climb trees, we can’t expect every child to have the same

skills. Embrace your child, and especially embrace what makes your

child unique and special.

that be?”

New rooms opening in the fall

Our child development center continues to grow

— what a blessing! We are preparing to open a second

room in the south wing for our Early Toddlers, with

Miss Jackie as lead teacher. That will give us a total of

two Baby rooms, two Early Toddler rooms, and two

Toddler rooms in the South Wing. In addition, we have

two carpeted rooms filled with large-motor activity

toys; we call these the Romper Rooms. Check it out!

Consider GLCDC for

Kindergarten in 2013

We have been considering of-

fering Kindergarten here at Great

Lakes Child Development Center,

but we need YOU to make it work! If your child is going into

Pre-K this school year, and will be ready for Kindergarten in

the fall, please let us know if you would consider keeping

your child at GLCDC for Kindergarten. The class would be

taught by one of our Pre-K teachers, Miss Benni, who taught

Kindergarten at St. Dennis School for several years.

School supply lists coming soon The hot days of summer are passing quickly, and on its

heels is a new school year. The first official day of classroom in-

struction is Monday, Sept. 10.

A supply list and classroom assignment will be coming

home soon with your Pre-Kindergarten and Preschool student(s).

Preschool teachers are Miss Marianne, Miss Carol and Miss Jo-

sie, with Miss Kristie and Miss Benni teaching Pre-K.

Shortly after school starts we will have a schedule of spe-

cial classes, including two new specials: Italian language and mu-

sic. Special classes include German, French and Spanish lan-

guages; library; art and computers.

Register early for Rams’ trips Rams Club has been going on lots of

great field trips this summer, and there are more

exciting trips planned for August. Please check

the Rams Club calendar of events — if your

child wants to join us on a field trip, you must

sign up at least THREE DAYS in advance.

We need time to schedule enough teachers and

drivers for each trip.
