DEFINITION
Glaucoma is a group of diseases that damage
the eye’s optic nerve and can result in vision
loss and blindness. However, with early detection and treatment, you can often protect your eyes against serious vision
loss
ETIOLOGY Glaucoma is caused by a blockage in
part ofthe eye. This prevents fluid draining out
ofThe eye, and increases pressure in the
eye, Called intraocular pressure.

TREATMENT & THERAPY1. Eye drops - Prostaglandin-like compounds example : latanoprost (Xalatan) and
bimatoprost (Lumigan) -Beta blockers example : timolol (Betimol, Timoptic), betaxolol
(Betoptic) and metipranolol (Optipranolol) -Alpha-agonists example : apraclonidine (Iopidine) and
brimonidine (Alphagan)2. Oral medications
