GLASS RECYCLING: SUSTAINABILITY AND VIABILITY

Glass should never be seen as a waste product as it has enormous value if processed into different products

required by industry. Over the last few years, we have developed a robust profitable market for crushed glass

and offer our clients our expertise to set up a similar process in their area or country. As a supplier of the

crushing and micron separation equipment we have owner run the plants and have the financial modelling that

can be adjusted based on your market. We offer a free evaluation of your market potential which will help us

size your plant through to giving you a fair idea on the running costs and the profitability.

GLASS FILTRATION MEDIA FOR POOLS AND MUNICIPAL WATER

GLASS CRUSHED AND SEPARATED INTO DIFFERENT MICRON SIZES OFFERS A FAR

BETTER FILTRATION MEDIA COMPARED TO SILICA SAND.

o It does not coagulate forming clumps in the filter as the surface

does not have micro pores and cracks which allow fats, oils, algae

and bacteria to attach to. Without clumping, this provides better

flow and less strain on the pumps saving 8% in electricity costs and

less wear and tear on the pumps.

o The glass filtration media is nonporous and so when backwashing

the dirt is released much faster saving 23% of the water loss you would experience with silica sand.

This fact alone pays for the sand over a few months due to the water savings

o The glass filters the water 25% better which will offer better clarity of the water.

o Glass can catch more turbid particles, thereby cleaning water more effectively and efficiently. This

may allow pool filters to be operated for fewer hours to achieve desired water clarity, also saving

energy and equipment life. Due to better filtration capabilities of the glass, you can run your pumps

20% less that you do with sand and this saves you on electricity

o More efficient backwashing uses less pool water that has already been chemically treated, heated

and filtered and requires less operational and staff time.

o Of particular interest is the fact that these results were achieved by using 20% less filter media by

weight. In economic terms, filter media is measured and purchased by weight; costs for filter media

are incurred in both the acquisition and disposal of media. As glass is 20% less dense than silica

sand, real savings in pool operating costs can be achieved particularly with the added considerations

of improved water clarity, increased backwash efficiency, reduced

electricity costs, less wear and tear on pumps and reduced running

time.

o Filtration glass can be washed and used again giving you five times

the life span of sand.

o Once you replace the glass it can be used in building so there is no

waste

GLASS SAND BLASTING GRIT

GLASS CRUSHED AND SEPARATED INTO DIFFERENT MICRON SIZES OFFERS A BETTER

EXPERIENCE AGAINST SILICA SAND.

o Blasting glass reduces chemical deposition on blasting surfaces so the surface is clean and ready to

paint.

o The product is metal free and will not transfer pigments onto the blasted surface.

o Blasting glass is re-usable as it will not absorb material throughout a closed blasting process.

o Blasting glass is less costly than other blasting materials.

o Blasting glass can be used for very fine work like etching or aluminium hub polishing, through to

descaling ship hulls and cleaning concrete off equipment.

GLASS USED IN BUILDING

CRUSHED GLASS IS A FANTASTIC BUILDING MEDIA AS IT ADDS A HIGH CHEMICAL

RESISTANCE TO CONCRETE AS WELL AS ADDING AMAZING AESTHETIC APPEAL

WHEN YOU POLISH THE SURFACE.

o Crushed glass in countertops or paving stones gives a high-end affect when

polished and sealed and it is very cost effective.

o Different colour glass can give clients different effects for different areas.

o In adding a pigment to the cement even clear glass stands out once polished.

o The surface is very hard wearing for high traffic areas.

o Can replace marble plaster for swimming pools adding more sparkle to the

pool as the sun hits the water.

o Glass adds a high chemical resistance to concrete as well as adding amazing

aesthetical appeal when you polish the surface.

o With the 2 ton per hour unit one can compete with sand if you are getting the

glass for free.

o If you are importing the sand from other areas in the world the glass

opportunity is very profitable.

o Liquid’s sealer filler.

o If you have a waste gate fee for glass to go to landfill, then the opportunity is

even greater as with this you can crush and process the glass for less than you

would purchase sand.

o Crushed glass that is dirty mixed with cement you can make all your building

blocks and bricks or even paving stones or floor tiles.

o Road building uses huge amounts of gravel and crushed glass works better

adding strength to the road surface.

o Over time as when standard glass silica is stressed through heat it hardens

more and more to that close to steal.

o Sand paper. Glass could provide for a cheaper filler of complete replacement

of aggregate media.

o elastomeric roof coating. Providing a longer lasting better acid-based

preventative for coatings.

Crushed glass if processed efficiently using our plants can compete and beat silica

sand in many ways as mentioned above. There is a massive market in the building sector for crushed glass.

GLASS USED IN LAND & AGRICULTURE

THERE ARE TWO PARTS TO REALLY CONSIDER USING GLASS, OTHER THAN FOR YOUR

FILTRATION PURPOSES, IN AGRICULTURE.

o Crushed glass is excellent for drainage as the water will pass through

it fast and efficiently.

o On golf courses crushed glass can be used for the drainage layers for

the greens

o Crushed glass makes a fantastic material for bunker sand

replacement as sand tends to hold the water after rain and glass will

not.

o The glass under the greens will also stop moles damaging the greens

as they can’t create the holes they need because the glass will keep

collapsing on them.

o In farming, glass is used to keep crawling insects at bay protecting

specific plants from being consumed as their food source. A

perimeter of glass is trenched into the ground or even sprinkled on

top, providing a top a limit top soil coagulation and the crawling

insects from calling this designated area ‘home’ adding risk to

venture.

GLASS USED AS A FILLER IN PAINT, LIQUID SEALERS & RESINS

CRUSHED GLASS MAKES A COST-EFFECTIVE FILLER COMPARED TO EXISTING FILLERS

IN THE MARKET

o Clear bottle and plate glass can be used for the filler market

o Can be used in the paint market and makes the paint more durable

o In the resin market powdered glass saves a fortune due to the cost of the resin

o With Epoxy you can do floor coatings that are non-slip and very decorative

o Road marking paint use a lot of fillers and crushed glass is used

o The filler market is massive and some of these fillers sell for around R20 per kg

o The sand paper manufactures use it also

SUMMARY

o Crushed glass is a very viable market around the world using our robust efficient machines.

o The processing of the glass costs ranges from R0.20 to R1.00 per kg making the glass around the

same cost of plaster sand

o We have 32 applications for the crushed glass and will give you our business plan to use

o The selling price of these applications can vary from R2 to R20 per kg

o We will help you with a financial plan for your new crushed glass business

o To size the correct plant for your needs we will work with you and your team

Thank you for your time and we hope that the information that you have received has made you as excited

about the waste crushed glass market as it has for us. We look forward to your enquiry to get more

information and our financial modelling spread sheet so together we can evaluate your market. PTO for glass

GLASS CRUSING EQUIPMENT RANGE

MACHINES BUILT TODATE

We have a few standard crusher systems that

we can quote on but most of the time we will

manufacture a specific system for a client

requirement. You may just want a system that

crushes the glass for ease of transport or a

system that crushes to powder so it is best that

you discuss your requirements with our

professional team. These machines can crush

as little as 200kgs of glass per hour right up to

6 tonnes of glass per hour. The micron

separation process is completed in two ways

one being a rotating sieve and the other a

vertical vibrating sieve. The plant can be built

into a container so all you have to do on your

side is connect the electrical supply and

switch on.
