GLASS COATING: APOLLONBringing light to life
Yesterday, glass was a design element. Today, it’s mission critical technology. That’s why glass manufacturers use Leybold Optics to optimise their operations. Its unsurpassed experience and expertise allow them to respond to new require-ments – fast! Take Apollon systems, for example. They produce functional coatings on architectural glass in a highly efficient, homogeneous and uncompromising manner. Shouldn’t you too?
PUTTING IMAGINATION TO WORK
WINDOWS OF OPPORTUNITIES
GO GREEN!
MAKING GLASS MAKE A DIFFERENCEA tradition of innovation makes Leybold Optics one of the most respected names in the thin-film industry. Its Glass & Solar Division is renowned for vacuum systems used to manufacture advanced nanotechnology solutions. Leybold Optics produces high-performance machinery for coating glass of every kind. And businesses requiring state-of-the-art deposition systems turn to Leybold Optics to help them manufacture the future.
The world’s climate is changing. So are attitudes towards energy conservation. No wonder high-quality glass coatings are in such demand. They save resources. They save money. And they help ensure well-balanced interior climates – in winter and summer. As the world goes green, more and more glass specialists go “Leybold Optics”. Its inline coating systems optimise thermal insulation values. And that’s a natural advantage.

LOADING WASHING ENTRANCE AREA
APOLLON: THE BEST KEEPS GETTING BETTER
Entrance Area: Here clear glass substrates enter the coating-process environment. Step by step ambient pressure is reduced from atmospheric pressure to the 10-3 mbar range. As the glass moves along, it converts froma cyclic loading sequence to a continuous substrate flow.

TECHNICAL DATA
Process Area: Here individual layers are applied during the stack sequence. How? By using DC and AC driven PVD tools (sputtering cathodes). Various target materials (metals and/or cera-mics) and specific gas atmospheres create the desired functional coatings (dielectrics, absor-bers, reflectors, conductors, etc.).

Exit Area: Here finished products feed outof the process environment and are prepared for quality inspection and unloading. As the ambient pressure rises, processing conditions gradually convert to atmospheric pressure. The transport sequence reverts back to a discontinuous substrate flow.
