1 Potter’s Wheel by Rev. Tom Glad Tidings FIRST UNITED METHODIST CHURCH May Potter's Wheel Okay, NERD ALERT! I came across an unfamiliar word in my reading the other day. Nikhedonia. It is defined as "elation due to impending victory". And I'm loaded with it right now. Why, you ask? How can I be excited because of the anticipation of victory? Why, It seems like half of the people we know are struggling with serious illness-cancer, heart disease, diabetes. It seems as if you can't even sit in Waffle House without worrying about being murdered. It seems as if the whole world wants to destroy our nation and our way of life. It seems as if everyone is allowed to attack Christians, but Christians are supposed to remain tolerant of it. Whence, then my nikhedonia? I actually become a little giddy when I read about the victory of God's Will over sin and death. It makes me want to start trash-talking ol' sa- tan himself. Picture this scene with me, and see if my nikhedonia is contagious: Therefore God also highly exalted him and gave him the name that is above every name, so that at the name of Jesus every knee should bend, in heaven and on earth and under the earth, and every tongue should confess that Jesus Christ is Lord, to the glory of God the Father. (Philippians 2:9-11, NRSV) Friends, rest assured. No matter how bleak things may appear, God's victory has already been secured, and today could well be the very day on which Christ returns to claim God's victory. Be encouraged. Be mindful. Be alert. Worship God with us Sunday.
