LA CASA (OSTINATO CRESCENDO)
La casa (ostinato crescendo)20184K riversato in HD / 4K transferred to HDdurata: 5'35" / duration: 5'35"ed. 2/5 + 2 A.P.
https://vimeo.com/236812813Password: lcoc
In horror movies, architecture is often a hidden main character, a frame around which and in which disparate situations weave together.La casa (ostinato crescendo) captures a series of stereotypical architectures used in mainstream horror cinema: from the abandoned house,to the imposing Victorian house, to the dollhouse. In the video, theoutside images of houses seen from the outside, deprived of their directfilmic reference, are forced to show themselves as variations of the same element and reveal identical signs while the filmic element works towards the construction of a psychological tension and its unveiling. Formed by sequences of day/night, the video interplays features major elements like the camera angle and position, the sound, and the evocative power of the setting. The architectures buildings are ‘performing’ like actors, evoking an imaginative narration beyond the ordinary
THE NIGHTSHIFT
The Nightshift2017video Full HDdurata: 7'11" / duration: 7'11"ed. 5 + 2 A.P.
https://vimeo.com/246005224Password: tn
A hypnotic voice-over narrates a text based on personal experience as a night porter. Here, the nightshift becomes a metaphor that tellsabout the mechanics of perception, describing a particular state of mind caused by working at night in relation to an self-generated filmic illusion in which one pretend that it is daytime. This work consists of a collection of images and resemblances that trick the eye, like the shadows of objects on a wall, CCTV footage or misleading deceptive reflections in windows. The video tackles the relationship between perception and projection, and hints at the suspension of disbelief and at the constant shifting between what is fantasizedand what is experienced.
EVERYTHING INTO SOMETHING ELSE
Everything into something else2017stampa ai sali d'argento su carta baritata / silver gelatin print on baryta papercm 37 x 29,7 ( 38,5 x 31,2 incorniciata / framed)ed. 3 + 2 A.P.
This work consists of pictures of mirrors that have lost the ability to reflect an image (bronze mirrors from the Egyptian and Greek periods). The camera can stand in front of them without being reflected and is able to observe the oxidized surface where no image can appear anymore. The film was inverted, presenting the print as a negative, so the light (necessary for an image formation) will ‘touch’ the mirror’s surface, giving an unexpected physical quality to it.

THE SAILOR
The Sailor2017video full HDdurata / duration: 9'ed. 5 + 2 A.P.
https://vimeo.com/189632056Password: ts
A voice-over tells the story of a sailor that dreams of a homeland he has never had; day after day the sailor constructs his new native land shaping it to hisimagination. Inspired by Fernado Pessoa’s static drama “The Mariner” the video deals with the notion of what each of us addresses as home and foreign and at the same time with issues related to language and its translation.Playing with the perception of who is watching, confusing it and mixing it, whilst images of landscapes trick the eyes of the viewer creating shadow play illusions, the female voice speaks Na’vi, an invented language artificially created upon commission for the movie Avatar. Like a second voice, the subtitles suggest a relation established among words, images and imagination.
A THING AMONG THINGS
A thing among things2015video full HDdurata / duration: 7’13”ed. 5 + 2 A.P.
https://vimeo.com/128470332Password: atat
The video combines the recollection of visual memories of a blind person with close-ups of transparent minerals. The images work almost as a scenography open to different interpretations: as if to see something presumed to be something else.
UNTITLED (PORTRAIT STUDY)
Untitled (Portrait study)video full HDdurata / duration: 13' 21''ed. 5 + 2 A.P.
https://vimeo.com/128477080Password: ups
The video documents the relationship between an entomologist with a few different species of butterfly. The gestures and the experience of an entomologist create a narrative between scientific description, language of play and choreography.
AN INACCURATE DISTANCE
An inaccurate distance2014video full HDdurata / duration: 15’22”ed. 5 + 2 A.P.
https://vimeo.com/114186689Password: aid
The video is an attempt to grasp the relationship the translator Riccardo Bertani has with the notion of distance. Bertani worked as a farmer all his life andhas never visited the countries he has written about. The camera tries to portray the intimacy of his house and look for distance within his domestic space. The video has been realised with the support of nctm e l’arte.
