Contact: Liz Adelman (515) 802 0603 [email protected] News Release Gin Blossoms, Grand Funk Railroad headline Hy-Vee Main Stage for 2016 Des Moines Arts Festival® Des Moines, IA – April 25, 2016 – The popular 90s group Gin Blossoms and classic rock legends Grand Funk Railroad will headline the Hy-Vee Main Stage Friday and Saturday evening, respectively, during the 2016 Des Moines Arts Festival®. Gin Blossoms hit the airwaves in the early 90s with hits from their album “New Miserable Experience.” Singles from that record, including “Hey Jealousy,” “Allison Road,” “Until I Fall Away,” and “Found Out About You” kept the band on the charts for nearly three years. Selling more than 4 million copies, the record made the band a 90s radio mainstay. Fans will also remember their smash hit “Til I Hear it From You” from the Empire Records soundtrack and “Follow You Down” from the record “Congratulations I’m Sorry,” which spent 10 weeks in the Top Ten. Gin Blossoms appeared on Letterman, Leno, Arsenio Hall, and Saturday Night Live in the late 90s, but disbanded in 1997. In 2005, the band was resigned to a music label and recorded their third full-length album in more than a decade. “Major Lodge Victory” landed on the Billboard 200 list and was named the #10 Indie album of the year. Since then, the group has been making music and touring. Classic 70s rock group Grand Funk Railroad has toured the world for 47 years, laying the groundwork for such bands as Foreigner, Journey, Van Halen, and Bon Jovi with its signature hard driving sound, soulful vocals, muscular instrumentation, and forceful pop melodies. A 1971 performance at New York's Shea Stadium sold out faster than the Beatles. The group's widespread appeal is also evident in its recording achievements. Throughout their career, Grand Funk has had 19 charted singles, eight Top 40 hits and two Number One singles (We're An American Band and Locomotion, both selling more than one million copies each). The group has now accumulated 13 gold and 10 platinum records with record sales in excess of 25 million copies sold worldwide. Gin Blossoms will perform Friday, June 24 at 8:30 pm and Grand Funk Railroad will take the stage Saturday, June 25 at 8:30 pm. “The music festival-style lineup is an exciting addition to the Festival this year.
