Basketball News From the Principal cont...

The Gilles Street EPIC

Basketball Team is our

combined year 6/7 girls and

boys team. We started as two

teams but joined together as

some of our players were no

longer available.

Our regular players are Ed,

Denzel, James, Jude and

Charlie, Nina, Georgia, Darcy

and Jasmine. Hawi and Chelsea

were valuable members of our

team until their other sporting

commitments took over.

We have usually played against

teams that are more

experienced and stronger this

year but our skills in attack and

defence have been improving

and our team work is getting

better.

We really appreciate Ed’s dad,

Hugh who is our coach. We

train on Tuesday mornings in

the gym.

We play again in term 4 so if

you are interested, let Mrs

West know.“

Hockey News

Hockey teams have played their

last games for the season.

Our Minkey A Team were

unfortunately defeated by Rose

Park, 2 goals to 7. The Minkey B

team finished the season with a

2-0 win against Pulteney.

Rock Stars of Room 1 In week 5 and 6 Alan Collins, (Elliott’s dad & a geologist) came to Room

1 and taught us about rocks and landscapes.

Alan brought in many specimens including: a dinosaur bone, a natural

Ruby and one of the first rocks on earth. He taught us about the three

different types of rocks: metamorphic, sedimentary and igneous. Alan

was happy to answer all of our questions we had ready for him. He

threw a rock at Elliott, fortunately it was fake.

In week six, Alan came back with four university students. They taught

us about plate tectonics and how mountains are formed. We got to

simulate this by using sand boxes that looked like this:

We learnt lots about Earth and enjoyed our time with Alan.
