3 EASY WAYS TO GIVE

Dear JAARS Partner,

Who is not excited about opening a big gift?

When you peruse this catalogue, you will enjoy beautiful photos of people anticipating receiving the best gift ever, then rejoicing, praying in thanks, and holding it close. For many people around the world, that gift arrives in plain cardboard cartons, not in fancy ribbons and bright wrapping paper. No matter. Receiving God’s Word for the !rst time in one’s own language brings shouts of joy and even tears of relief.

You and I love to be part of the celebration, too, by helping give others the gift of Scriptures.

At the end of this !scal year, we rejoice in completed projects, which have generated new life and hope among Bibleless people groups. Now we invite you to pore over the descriptions of our new, and ongoing, projects. We hope you’ll consider each one carefully and see how God leads you.

"e JAARS team and I will be praying for you as you seek guidance concerning these opportunities for involvement. "ank you in advance for helping the world celebrate Jesus, the Word who became #esh and who dwells among us.

Eldon “Butch” BarkmanJAARS Interim President

P.S. Knowing that each gift ultimately comes from God above, we look forward with expectancy to see what he will do through you in the coming year.

JAARS Global Programs Fund Each year, we provide countless services: #ight programs, !lm dubbing, shipping, training, Internet setups, micro-loans, and more. Your gift will help us continue providing these vital global services—and many others. As a result, hundreds of Bible translation and literacy programs can progress, bolstered by e$cient, reliable support from JAARS.

NEED FOR GPF100: $1,250,000

Business as Mission “Business as mission” is a worldwide movement that brings together corporate and ministry goals—creating for-pro!t companies that aim to glorify God and minister to people. "ese can be vital to Bible translation and literacy programs, but most teams lack the needed start-up capital. Your gift can help provide low-interest loans to businesses, as well as training, mentoring, prayer support, and encouragement.

NEED FOR BAM100: $254,532

Water Safety Gear and TrainingMany current and future Bible translation programs may call for water travel. But water safety training isn’t available everywhere, and safety equipment can be pricey. Your gift will help translators and their

families get crucial training and gear, such as life jackets, signal beacons, GPS units, #ares, and more.

NEED FOR S5645: $44,531

Ferry Boat for the BijagosO% the coast of Guinea-Bissau lies the Bijago Archipelago: a beautiful, yet isolated island chain that’s home to roughly thirty thousand people. No inter-island boat service exists—so most islanders are cut o% from the wider economy and Christian fellowship. Your gift will help provide a large ferry for the islands, helping the Guinean Church support Bible translation, literacy, health initiatives, economic growth, and more.

NEED FOR S5400: $673,259

Transportation for AfricaTransportation is crucial for those involved in Bible translation and literacy work in Africa— including the many Africans who are heading up work in their own language. Public transportation, if it exists, often doesn’t reach the remote areas that teams must visit to research languages, check trans-lations, and supervise projects. Together we can provide the needed vehicles, helping work progress within Africa’s most remote communities.

NEED FOR W5648: $3,676 Motorbike for Banda-Linda Translators–Central African Republic

NEED FOR W5747: $3,676 Motorbikes for Congolese Translators–Democratic Republic of Congo

Aviation and TravelGetting there is often a monumental task for people involved in Bible translation, and in many cases it’s impossible without aircraft. But more than half the JAARS #eet is powered by avgas, which is expensive or not even available in some countries. So we must switch to turbine engine aircraft, which run on jet fuel. For 2011, our most crucial need is for two Pilatus PC-6s for Indonesia. A Soloy Cessna 207, which we’ve already purchased, also needs to be prepared and shipped to Cameroon. And travel subsidies are needed to cover 35 percent of travel costs for many teams. Your gift can help meet these transportation needs, bene!ting hundreds of translation programs.

IT Support for TranslatorsNearly all Bible translation work in India relies on computers, the go-to machine for analyzing languages, typing dra!s, researching, and collaborating. Yet few translators are technical gurus, so so!ware bugs and equipment glitches can be menacing obstacles. By partnering with JAARS, you can help Wycli"e India and other partner organizations provide the technical support needed to #nish the task in India.

NEED FOR S5851: $36,661

Netbooks and Solar PowerINSPIRE (Initiative for Netbooks and Solar Power in Remote Environs) is an innovative four-year program launching this year in Papua New Guinea. It will o%er subsidized netbooks and solar power systems to Papua New Guinean translators, as well as crucial computer training. Your gift will hasten the delivery of God’s Word to thirty-!ve remote communities where transla-tion is underway. For more information see: www.jaars.org/Rev7Tsunami

NEED FOR S5850: $51,839

3D Animation Tools for Sign-Language ScripturesDozens of sign-language translation teams are bringing God’s Word to life in Deaf communities. But most sign-language Scriptures are presented by video, which can be expensive, time-consuming, or impractical. You can help fund the development of 3D animation tools that teams can use to produce high-quality, cost-e"ective animations instead.

NEED FOR WRD100: $117,409

Computers for Kenyan Translation Bible Translation and Literacy, a partner organization in Kenya, is currently working in fourteen remote language groups. You can help provide twenty new computers for our colleagues in Kenya, equipping them to translate Scriptures, publish literacy primers, create health materials, and more.

Your gift to S5849 will greatly improve the translation process—providing God’s Word more quickly for the people of Papua New Guinea.

NEED FOR S5849: $57,353

Internet Upgrades for Regional CentersOne of the areas of greatest remaining translation need is in Africa. "is project is sponsored in partnership with Wycli%e Bible Translators.

NEED FOR S100511: $26,482

Media Equipment for KartidayaBy partnering with JAARS, you can help give Kartidaya the basic equipment needed to produce cassettes, CDs, and other nonprint media for Indonesia’s remote language groups. NEED FOR S52743: $36,041

Audio Scriptures and PlayersFor many people in Paci!c cultures, read-ing is not the primary means of obtaining information. For those who will never read, oral presentation of the gospel is essential. By partnering with JAARS and Wycli%e Bible Translators, you can help put oral Scripture players into the hands of people across the Paci!c. It’s a small device, but it can deliver God’s Word to hungry hearts.
