Once upon a time there lived a giant

He had a gigantic castle

However, the most special thing about this giant was not his castle, but his garden

Page 5: Giant selfish

The garden was also perfect for children to play in.

One summer’s afternoon the giant returned to his garden

and bellowed at them to get out

Page 7: Giant selfish

The next morning, he got up and built a high wall all around the garden

for he was a selfish giant.

The colours of autumn came and went

Then a strange thing happenedAs spring turned into summer outside the wall, within the giant’s garden it remained winter. No flowers, no bird song and ... no children.

While outside the garden the seasons came and went, inside the garden winter would not release her grip.

For long years

Then one morning the giant awoke to a strange sound:

The sound of birdsong.

He followed the sound to a far corner of the garden, where he found some children playing happily

In this corner of the garden, just this corner, the birds were singing, and the garden was beautiful again.

He went to work on the wall. Within hours, he had knocked it down

That evening, the garden was filled with the sound of happy children playing. The giant lay back, finally contented. “It is your garden now, little children,”
