    Last week we focussed on Gods Heart for Girls High. A meaningfullspiritual growth week where every girl could decide if she wanted toattend. The response was extemely positive most appropiate.

    Derby Day & Parents DayWe thoroughly enjoyed your company at Derby Day and hope thatduring Parents Day you found it insightful speaking to your daughter steachers. Thank you to all the parents who attended these two days. Wehope you experienced both days as worthwhile and as constructive aswe did. Your feedback on both days will also be appreciated .DrummiesThe following girls are members of the National Majorette Team

    presently touring Europe: Hlalefo Moletsane, Lesedi Mamatela andLesego Pitso. They will be participating at the World Majorette SportFederations International Competition being held in Pore, Croatia .Well done girls!The drummies participated in the competition at Bergsig Akademie inRustenburg and achieved the following results:Flag Group was placed 1 st, Pom; Non-prop group placed 1; Small Drill

    Leader 2 nd, Sub-leaders 1 st, Squad 1 st, Display 1 st. Overall they were placed 1 st. Well done girls! The drummies will participate in thecompetition at La Hoff in Klerksdorp on the 6 th Sept competitionstarts at 09h00. Drummie parents are welcome to support theirdaughters.

    Cross countryThree girls have been included in the North West Cross Country teamfor 2014. They will attend the SA Camp on Saturday 13 September inGeorge Storm Barkas and Lerato Ndaba in the U/17 A team andCharn Berning U/15 B team. Congratulations!

    Tennis

    Girls High participated in the 2014 Potchefstroom League and came3rd in the Third and Fourth League.

    VolleyBallSanchia Niehaus participated in Volleyball South Africa (VSA). Shemanaged 13 th place in the first event of the series, and was the youngest

    participant by three years.ATKV SpelathonThe following girls participated in the ATKV Spelathon on 7 August.They had to study the spelling of 1000 Afrikaans words.Setheal de Jong won the competition and also received a Kindle-digitalreader as 1 st prize plus a gold medal and certificate. Firdous Hoosenalso did very well and received a gold medal and certificate.

    ATKV Alicia Bruwer is the Olympiade for Senior Afrikaans FirstAdditional Language.

    Senior Afrikaans OlympiadA group of 3533 learners in the country were entered for the FirstAdditional Afrikaans Olympiad Thirty eight (38) girls from GHS

    participated. The following girls were placed in the Top 20 in NorthWest Province.Jean-Marie Lebrun (2 nd), Jennifer Coelho (3 rd), Michelle Lategan (6 th),Mahlatse Malesa (7 th), Alexia Hattingh (8 th), Banabohle Mahlatse(11 th), Catherine Denyssen (16 th), Kensani Langa (17 th), Monique

    Norman (18 th), Kamohelo Pelesane (19 th).

    English Olympiad 2015A reminder to the girls who will be in Grades 11 and 12 next year, andwho would like to write the English Olympiad, to pay their R110 entryfee by Friday 5 September. After that date, entries will be closed.Science ExpoGirls High attended the Regional ESKOM Young Scientists Expo onSaturday. Thirty girls from GHS participated 20 girls receivedBronze and 7 girls received Silver and 1 girl received a Gold medal.

    Potch Girls High was awarded the Trophy for the Top Secondary

    School. Well done girls!National School Quiz Championships

    GHS has made it through to the National Tournament Championship.The tournament runs over 3 days and will take place the first week ofDecember at Carnival City. The entrants are: Jeanne-Marie Lebrun,Tshegofatso Sepotokele and Milena Weldemichael.

    MINQUIZ

    This is South Africas Premier National Science Competition. Thefollowing girls participated in the 2014 Provincial MINQUIZCompetition Mathibe Marumo, Sara Crator, Joy Kim.

    MusicMichelle Lategan received a trophy for Music from The AssociatedBoard of the Royal Schools of Music Grade 4 Descant Recorder.

    Applous Choir

    GHS entered the advanced category for Nie-Afrikaans-moederstaalsprekende High school. Only two choirs went through tothe finals. GHS came 2 nd and ended with only 1% behind the best choirof the evening. Our choir was focused and gave an energetic

    performance. Their behaviour was excellent and they were commendedon that by the ATKV.

    PRODUCTIONThe girls have worked hard this term practicing a musical & dance

    production. Below are the dates and times for the final performances.Booking has opened and you need to buy your tickets to confirm yourseat. Seats are limited. The production promises to be a performancenot to be missed.

    The cost of the tickets : Adults R30 Children R15Bookings are essential and can be made at the finance office.

    A special concession, ONLY for parents that attend on the Thursdayevening: Parents that attend can take their daughters home after theProduction. This is NOT applicable for the performances on the otherevenings nor for girls planning to travel home with other parents. Onthe Tuesday & Wednesday, learners may attend and bring a partner cost as above.

    FINANCEThe Grade 8 11 learners received their finance statements. Please askyour daughter for the statement.

    2015 BUDGET APPROVAL MEETINGDate: Sunday 12 October Time : 16h00 Venue : Pavilion.

    The proposed school and hostel budgets for 2015 will be presented to parents by the SGB Finance Committee on the day on which boardersreturn for the fourth term.NEW STAFFMrs Gerber has retired and Mrs A Coetzee is now teaching English.Mrs Jacobsz has returned to Ireland and Mrs N Visser will start in her

    place on 1 September. We welcome both new teachers to GHS.
