Below, an example with fictitious figures is given in order to facilitate the filling of the GHG Data Request Form:
Instructions for filling the Abener s Greenhouse Gas Emissions Data Request Form
The greenhouse gas emissions (hereafter, GHG emissions) to consider are as follows:
1.- Direct GHG emissions (Scope 1) (equivalent t o secti on 2 at t he data request form ).The direct emissions, also designated scope 1, are the GHG emissions associated with sources that are undercontrol of a company, as are the emissions emanating from the combustion in boilers, ovens, machinery orvehicles, and the emissions emanating from processing equipment, as well as fugitive emissions fromequipment or installations.
2.- Indirect GHG emissions (Scope 2) (equivalent t o section 1 at t he data request form).The scope 2 indirect emissions are associated with the generation of electricity or thermal energy (steam,thermal oil, hot water, etc.) purchased and consumed by the company that physically occur in the electricity orthermal energy generation plants.
3.- Indirect GHG emissions (Scope 3)(equivalent to sections 3, 4 and 5 at the data request form).The scope 3 indirect emissions include the rest of the indirect GHG emissions. The scope 3 emissions are aconsequence of the activities of the company, but they are produced by sources that are not the property norcontrolled by the company, but are connected to goods and services procured (with the exception of indirectemissions related to the generation of electricity or thermal energy obtained, that are included in scope 2).
A brief explanation for the filling of the GHG emissions data request form is given below:
1. GHG emissions associated with the electricity consumption.
- Necessary data: Estimated electricity consumption in the manufacturing installations and/or workshops forthe manufacturing of the equipments supplied (in case of being the manufacturer) and in general, theelectricity consumption during the provision of the service as a example, the electricity consumption inoffices associated with the provision of the service (processing of the order, offices works, etc.). Anestimation of this consumption can be done following the next methodology:
Estimated consumption = kWh consumed in 1 year * (estimated % attributable to the contract/order)
To estimate the % attributable, the following operation would be done:
% = (Amount invoiced to the contract/order /total yearly turnover of the company ) * 100
- Estimation of GHG emissions:
kWh consumed in 1 year * (% at tr ibut able to t he cont ract/ order) * Emission factor (i.e.0,4kgCO2/kWh) = kgCO2
Example with hypothetical f igures:Yearly electricity consumption (kWh): 290.000,00 kWhAmount invoiced to the Abener contract/order (): 245.000,00 Yearly total turnover of the company (): 27.541.412,00 Estimated % attributable to the contract/order: (245.000,00 / 27.541.412,00 ) * 100 = 0,88956%
CO2emissions calculation: (290.000,00 kWh* 0,88956% ) * 0,4 kgCO2/kWh = 1.031,88 kgCO2/ 1000 =1,031 TmCO2
Other ways of estimation are allowed.
2. GHG emissions associated w ith t he f uel consumpt ion .
- Necessary data: type of fuel, estimated fuel consumption in liters for the manufacturing or assembly of
the equipments supplied (in case of being the manufacturer) and in general, during the provision of theservices (consumption in electricity generators, in offices for heating systems, etc.).
Note: If the exact fuel consumption associated with the contract/order is unknown, a percentage attributable can beestimated following the methodology proposed in t he previous section.
- Estimation of GHG emissions:
Liters of f uel * Emission factor (i.e. for diesel 2,63 kgCO2/li ter) = kgCO2
3. GHG emissions associated w ith personnel jou rneys to the build ing site.
- Necessary data: brief description of the vehicle, amount of vehicles, type of fuel and km covered by thevehicle.
- Estimation of GHG emissions:
Km covered * amoun t o f vehicles * Emission f actor (i.e. f or di esel car 1.6 L 0,16 kgCO2/km) =kgCO2
4. GHG emissions associated w ith t he acquisition and t ransport of the suppli es and equipm ents.
- Necessary data: Mode of transport , weight transported in Tm and km covered approximately.
- Estimation of GHG emissions:
Weight transport ed in Tm * km covered * Emission f actor (i.e. for t ruck 0,072 kgCO2/km* Tm) =kgCO2
5. GHG emissions associated with the raw materials.
- Necessary data: main raw materials from the main equipments supplied and kg of each one.
- Estimation of GHG emissions:
Kg of raw material * Emission factor (i.e. for stainless steel: 3.38 kgCO2/kg stainless steel) =kgCO2
