GFSAD 30 WEBSITE UPDATEWITH INPUTS FROM:PRASAD THENKABAIL, CRISTINA MILESI, JEFF PETERS, JEANNE JONES
JANUARY 17, 2014
Temporary Websitehttps://powellcenter.usgs.gov/globalcroplandwater/
Planning for Official Website
Website building will start in year 2 Hosting and design will be provided by
personnel at USGS Menlo Park Working with Jeff Peters and Jeanne
Jones, web development leads at USGS in Menlo Park
Coordination with LPDAAC (Dave Mayer and Stacie Bennett) for hosting final project results
Next Steps
Decide on amount of data that needs to be distributed:1. Cropland extent (multiply by 4 decades)2. Irrigated vs Rainfed3. Cropping intensity4. Crop type for 8 crops (one layer or 8 layers)
• Constraints on hosting storage need to be resolved - Where is the preliminary data for distribution going to sit?
Next Steps (cont.)
Decide on functionality Web server with layering and zooming
functionality Data download: by continent, country, path
row, MODIS tile, user defined rectangle? User interaction to collect feedback and
improvements (crowdsourcing functionality)
Example Websites for Global Landsat

Examples of websites distributing global data at 30m:
Global Forest Change (Matt Hansen (UMD)/Google) http://earthenginepartners.appspot.com/

Global Land cover from China (Peng Gong) http://data.ess.tsinghua.edu.cn/
Global Land cover from USGS (Giri)?

Options
Map Display and Data Export – Orange County example
• Mobile collection on all Android and IOS devices (html 5)
• GPS with device accuracy, photo and sound collection
• Offline mode, collect data and it will sync when device connects
• You design the mobile web page
• Set user category from mobile: researcher or crowd sourced
• See and query results on a map, from mobile or desktop
Field collection / verification, researcher and crowd sourced
