The origin of Gevril date back in the mid 18 century when founded by Jacques Gevril. 1758, Jacques accompanied his colleague Pierre Jaquet Droz to Madrid to present a selection of complex musical automata to King Ferdinand VI. The king was so impressed he bought every piece. Jacques decided to stay in Spain to fortify his reputation and then passed to Moyse Gevril and Daniel Gevril who built their reputation on horological innovations and artistic enameling techniques. Today one of the Gevril pocket watch is at the Museum in Geneva and one is part of the collection of the Widsdorf family collection, founders of Rolex. In 1990, a Swiss distributor acquired the rights of Gevril and launched a series of Gevril watches at the Basel fair in 1995. In 2001, Samuel Friedmann, a Swiss businessman with passion for watches bought the brand. He kept the factory in Switzerland where the company produces 6000 pieces a year, primarily limited edition in either 18k gold or stainless steel. Today Gevril headquarters is in New York.
