Example Paragraph:• "There are people now living in Pittsburgh who have traveled

diligently for a whole week to reach Philadelphia. The same persons can now go from our city to the eastern metropolis between sunrise and sunset of a summer's day, without fatigue, and without occasion for stopping to eat more than one meal.” Daily Morning Post, Pittsburgh, on the opening of the Pennsylvania Railroad in 1854. This newspaper clipping inspired me to learn more about the Pennsylvania railroad and create an image of a train that was used during the 1850s. I can only imagine what it must have been like to work on the railroad, working from sun up till sunset and being involved with a revolutionary way to travel. Although the work was hard for the workers it must have been inspiring to work with new technology and see how it impacted the country by moving people, goods, and ideas from one place to one faster than ever before.
