Welcome Congratulations on your purchase of Red Hat Enterprise Linux edition of Tally - Tally ies 7.2! Getting Started with Tally introduces you to the Tally ies 7.2 on Red Hat Enterprise Linux and helps you to install Tally ies 7.2 on your Linux Desktop, so that you are ready to run your accounts on it right away. Once you are started, refer to Tally Reference Manual for detailed explanation of the features, functions and various concepts of Tally. In this booklet it is assumed that Red Hat Enterprise Linux has already been installed. Refer to the 'Installation of Tally ies 7.2 on Red Hat Enterprise Linux' for step-by-step instructions on how to install Tally ies 7.2. Let’s get started!

System Requirements To install Tally ies 7.2 on Red Hat Enterprise Linux, your system must meet the following minimum requirements.

Processor IBM PCs or compatible computers with CPUs of the Intel family that are Pentiums or equivalent

Memory As specified for RHEL (Red Hat Enterprise Linux)

Hard Disk 10MB Minimum

Operating System

• RHEL Workstation 3.0

• Tally runs only on GNOME Desktop

Installation of Tally ies 7.2 on RHEL workstation 3.0 It takes you only a few minutes to install Tally but before doing it, make sure you read the following instructions: You can install Tally in a few minutes. By default, a folder with the name ‘tally’ will be created in /usr directory. However, you may specify a different folder name, if you wish to do so. Before you install, read through the following instructions:

Pre-Installation

• You need to have root permissions on your computer to install Tally.

• You need to have all rights (Execute, Read and Write permissions) for the Installation directory.

Installing Tally

Step 1: Insert the TALLYCD in the CD ROM DRIVE. Step 2: Mount the CDROM (Follow this step if the CDROM is not mounted already)

• Use the command – mount /mnt/cdrom. This command would mount the CDROM on /mnt/cdrom directory.

Step 3: Set current directory

• Start the Browser and navigate to CDROM directory



• OR Click on the CDROM icon on your desktop, which will open the Browser for CDROM directory

• OR change your current directory to CDROM – cd /mnt/cdrom

Step 4: Execute Tally Install Command

• In the browser, double click the Install icon to install Tally residing in cdrom directory

• OR Run INSTALL from the cdrom - ./install Executing install program of Tally, brings up the following screen.



Application Directory The Tally program files reside in this directory. The installation of Tally ies 7.2 on RHEL workstation 3.0 program provides the default path as - /usr/tally - for application directory. You may accept the suggested directory. Otherwise, click the Change Application Directory button to change the directory path. Data Directory The Tally data resides in this directory. If you install Tally ies 7.2 in a directory that already has an earlier version, Tally will detect the existing configuration settings and bring up the directory previously used for Tally Data. Configuration Directory Tally configuration files reside in this directory. You can specify the path of the directory where configuration files will be maintained. It is usually similar to the path of the Application Directory. You are now ready to use Tally ies 7.2! You can start Tally by clicking the Tally program icon on your desktop. Enjoy the Power!



Important

Tally ies 7.2 on Red Hat Linux is case sensitive with respect tofile name and file path. All references in the Tally.ini file musthave correct uppercase/lowercase spellings for theLicense/Data Directory path and TDL path.



How to Execute Tally?

1. Click on Red Hat Icon, which is at the left bottom of the your screen.

2. You will get the Tally 7.2 icon displayed in the menu list.

3. Click on Tally 7.2 to start using Tally ies 7.2

You are now ready to use Tally ies 7.2 on Linux!



Activating Tally ies 7.2 The following section explains how you can activate Tally If you have an Internet connection: If you have an Internet connection, you can activate the license using the Online option available in F12: Configure Licensing

Online. Your Tally program will connect to the Tally Internet Services server and validate your registration information and activate the license. When you start Tally for the first time, the Activation Form dialog window will display three fields:

Serial- Enter the Serial number printed on the CD cover. Key – Enter the Key printed inside the CD cover. Email Id – Enter your email address. After you enter all the three fields, press Enter key to proceed. You will get the Information pop up box that indicates your license is successfully activated.



If you do not have an Internet connection: If you do not have an Internet connection, you can activate the license using the Offline option available in F12: Configure Licensing Offline. Here’s how you do it… When you start Tally for the first time, the Activation Form dialog window will be displayed. Press Escape or Ctrl+Q to quit this form. Now, Click on F12: Configure Licensing Offline. The same Activation Form dialog window will open with three fields in offline mode:

Serial- Enter the Serial number printed on the CD cover. Key – Enter the Key printed inside your CD cover. Email Id – Enter your email address. After you enter all the three fields, press the Enter key to proceed. If your Serial, Key and Email/Id are found correct, you will get the Information pop up box that indicates your tally_req.slk file is successfully generated. The tally_req.slk file is stored in the Tally folder. Copy the tally_req.slk file in a CD or a floppy. Take the CD/floppy to the



computer connected to the Internet. This computer must also have Tally installed on it. Copy the tally_req.slk file from the CD/floppy to the Tally folder in this computer. Start Tally on the computer connected to the Internet and go to F12: Configure Licensing Offline. Click on the Send External Request option to send the request to Tally Internet Services server. The response will be saved in a new file called tally_resp.slk, which will be generated in the Tally folder. Copy the tally_resp.slk file in a CD/floppy from the computer connected to the Internet. Copy the same file into the Tally folder of your computer. You are now ready to use Tally. Note: • If you cannot activate Tally because of connectivity issue or

for any other reason, you will need to try again after a while. • For more details on Licensing, refer Tally Reference

Options available in License Menu: The user can find the following options in the License menu: Functions/Features Product(s) Online Offline Quit Note: If you want to use Tally on another computer (e.g. You use Tally in your office computer and now want it on your home computer), then you need to surrender the license, which was activated on the first computer using the option Surrender (F12 Licensing Online/Offline) and subsequently activate it on the second. Refer Tally Reference Manual for instructions on how to use Tally and details on the options available in the Licensing menu.

Differences between Tally on Linux and Tally on Windows Listed below are the differences between Tally on Linux and Tally on Windows. •

1. All System names start with * instead of the traditional BOX (□) Character.

E.g.: □ Not Applicable * Not Applicable

2. Web Browser button opens a separate browser window

3. Format of Print preview screen.

4. The key combinations SHIFT+Function Key or

CTRL+SHIFT+Function Key in Linux Tally have the same effect as that of ALT+FunctionKey or CTRL+ALT+Functionkey in Windows Tally.

5. In the List of Printers Port is displayed as LPR.



Read this section before using the product Software License Agreement

TALLY ies 7.2 This is a legal agreement between yourselves (an individual company, trust, government company, government department or any other legal entity), the purchaser of the software described hereunder, hereinafter referred to as the LICENSEE, on the one part, and Tally Solutions Pvt. Ltd., hereinafter referred to as the COMPANY, on the other part. By installing the software described below, you are agreeing to be bound by the terms of this agreement. If you do not agree to the terms of this agreement, promptly return the complete and undamaged software packet and accompanying items (including written materials, binders, brochures etc) to the place where you purchased them for a full refund.

1. GRANT OF LICENSE: The COMPANY grants to the LICENSEE the right to use one copy of the enclosed software program, TALLY ies 7.2 hereinafter called the SOFTWARE. The SOFTWARE is in ‘use’ on a computer when it is loaded into temporary memory (that is RAM) or it is ‘installed’ into permanent memory (example, Hard Disk, CD-ROM Disk, or any other storage device on the computer). The SOFTWARE may be used on a single computer (for the Single User edition of the SOFTWARE) or on a Local Area Network (LAN) Server (for the Unlimited Multi User Edition of the SOFTWARE) for use on any one or more nodes connected directly to the LAN server for simultaneous use by more than one user. This is the only situation under which more than one user can use the SOFTWARE simultaneously. The SOFTWARE may be freely moved from one computer to another belonging to the LICENSEE. The LICENSE is granted exclusively for the use of the purchaser, who is the LICENSEE, and the LICENSEE shall not be allowed to use the SOFTWARE for the benefit of anyone other than the LICENSEE. The LICENSEE shall not rent, lease, or otherwise transfer this SOFTWARE and the rights to use the SOFTWARE to anyone.

2. COPYRIGHT: The SOFTWARE is owned by Tally Solutions Pvt. Ltd and is protected by Indian Copyright Laws and International Treaty Provisions. Therefore you must treat this SOFTWARE like any other copyrighted material (e.g. a book or musical recording), except that you may (a) make ONE copy of the SOFTWARE solely for backup or archival purposes or (b) transfer the SOFTWARE to single hard disk, provided you keep the original solely for backup or archival purposes. You shall not copy the written materials accompanying the SOFTWARE.



LIMITED WARRANTY

1. LIMITED WARRANTY: The COMPANY warrants that (a) this SOFTWARE will perform substantially in accordance with the accompanying written materials for a period of 90 (ninety) days from the date of purchase and that (b) the medium on which the SOFTWARE is supplied, will be free from defects in materials and workmanship under normal use and service for a period of 90 (ninety) days from the date of purchase. Any other implied warranties on the SOFTWARE are also limited to 90 (ninety) days. The LIMITED WARRANTY is void unless the purchase of the SOFTWARE is from a supplier authorized to supply the SOFTWARE in the geographical territory of the LICENSEE, or from the COMPANY.

2. CUSTOMER REMEDIES: The COMPANY and its suppliers’ entire liability and your exclusive remedy shall be at the option of the COMPANY, either (a) return of the price paid on the return of the SOFTWARE to the supplier and giving the proof of having uninstalled the activation license, or (b) repair or replacement of the SOFTWARE that does not meet LIMITED WARRANTY of the COMPANY, and which is returned to the supplier with a copy of the proof of purchase (such proof of purchase being either the original invoice or receipt of the supplier). The LIMITED WARRANTY is void if the failure of the SOFTWARE has resulted from virus, any other software or process on the computer of the LICENSEE, improper use, accident, theft, abuse or misapplication of the SOFTWARE. Any replaced SOFTWARE will be warranted for the remainder of the original warranty period or 30 (thirty) days whichever is longer.

3. NO OTHER WARRANTY: The COMPANY and all its suppliers disclaim all other warranties, whether expressed or implied, including, but not limited to, implied warranties of merchantability and fitness for a particular purpose, with regard to the SOFTWARE and the accompanying written materials.

4 NO LIABILITY FOR CONSEQUENTIAL DAMAGES: The COMPANY and its suppliers under no circumstances shall be liable for any damages whatsoever (including, without limitation, damages for loss of business profit, business interruption, loss of business information, or any other monetary or non-monetary loss) arising out of the use or the inability to use this SOFTWARE, even if the COMPANY has been advised of the possibility of such damages.

5 APPLICATION OF WARRANTY: The LIMITED WARRANTY is applicable if, and only if, the licensee has completed the activation process for the software, and the registration information of the licensee has been received by the COMPANY. Otherwise the LIMITED WARRANTY shall not apply.

JURISDICTION In the event of any dispute whatsoever arising between the parties in any way connected with the interpretation or implementation of any term of this agreement, or in any way connected with the use or inability to use the SOFTWARE or any other services of the COMPANY, connected with the SOFTWARE, the same shall be



referred to the sole arbitration or a person to be appointed by the COMPANY, and the decision of the arbitrator will be final and binding on all parties. The arbitration proceedings shall always be held in the City of Bangalore, India. All disputes whatsoever that may arise shall be governed and construed in accordance with the laws prevailing in the City of Bangalore, India.
