Your vehicle’s instrument panel isequipped with this cluster or one verysimilar to it. The instrument panelcluster includes these key features:

A. Engine Coolant TemperatureGauge

B. Fuel GaugeC. SpeedometerD. TachometerE. Message Center (displays

odometer and text messages onvarious vehicle functions, such aslow fuel, trunk ajar and others)

NOTE: The instrument panel clusteris designed to let you know aboutmany important aspects of your vehi-cle’s operation. It is important to readyour Owner Manual and becomefamiliar with the information beingrelayed to you by the lights, gaugesand indicators, as well as what actioncan be taken to ensure safety and toprevent damage.

While most of the features on your radiowill look familiar, following are some thatmay be new.

(Power/Volume): Press this knob toturn the system on or off. Turn the knobto adjust the volume.

(Information): Press this button totoggle the radio display between stationfrequency and time. If equipped, it willalso display additional text informationrelated to the current FM-RDS or XMstation, or MP3 song.

(Tune): Turn this knob to selectradio stations or, when a CD is playing,to select a track or MP3 file. Press the knob to display the tone control (bass/treble) labels or speakercontrol (balance/fade) labels. Turn theknob to adjust the setting.

(Balance/Fade): Press this button,or the Tune knob, to adjust the speakercontrol. Turn the knob to adjust the setting.BAND: Press this button to switchbetween FM1, FM2, AM, or XM1 andXM2 (if equipped). With a CD loaded,press this button to switch betweenradio and CD operation.

(Seek/Scan): Press the right or left arrow button to go to the next or previous radio station or, when a CD

is playing, to the next track or MP3 file or the start of the current track orMP3 file.To enter the scan mode, press and holdeither arrow button for a few seconds (abeep will sound). Radio stations will bescanned. Press either arrow buttonagain to stop scanning.

(Reverse): Press and hold this but-ton to reverse playback quickly within atrack or MP3 file.

(Forward): Press and hold this but-ton to advance playback quickly within atrack or MP3 file.CD/AUX: Press this button to play a CDinstead of the radio. Press again and thesystem will automatically search for anauxiliary input device such as a portableaudio player. A portable device can beconnected to the auxiliary input locatedon the lower-right side of the radio.RDM (Random): Press this button toplay CD tracks or MP3 files in randomorder. Press again to turn off randomplay.RPT (Repeat): Press this button to hearthe current CD track over again. Pressagain to turn off repeat play.EQ (Automatic Equalization): Pressthis button to select preset equalizationsettings.CAT (Category) (if equipped): Press thisbutton to find XM stations within adesired category.Setting the TimeTo set the time (without date display):1. Press the (Clock) button until the

hour numbers begin flashing on the radio display. Press the button again to adjust the minute numbers.

2. With either the hour or minute numbers flashing, use the Tune knob to select the time.

3. Press the Clock button again to set the currently displayed time.

To set the time (with date display, if equipped):1. Press the (Clock) button. Or, if

equipped, press the MENU button until the clock option is displayed; and then press the pushbutton located under the clock option label. The HR, MIN, MM, DD, YYYYlabels will appear on the display.

2. Press the pushbutton under any of the labels to be changed.

3. Press the pushbutton again or the FWD button to increase the numbers.Press the REV button to decrease the numbers. Rotating the Tune knob also will increase or decrease the numbers of the selected label.

4. Press the Clock or MENU button again to set the currently displayed time and date.

Setting Preset StationsBefore setting your preset or favoritestations, shift your vehicle into Park(automatic transmission) or into Neutraland set the parking brake (manual transmission).

To store up to 18 preset stations:1. Turn on the radio.2. Press BAND to select FM1, FM2 or AM.3. Tune in the desired radio station.4. Press and hold one of the six

numbered pushbuttons until a beep sounds to store the station.

Setting Favorite Stations (if equipped)FAV (Favorite) (if equipped): Press thisbutton to go through up to six pages ofany combination (AM, FM or XM, ifequipped) of preset favorite radio sta-tions. On each page, up to six stationsare available by using the six pushbut-tons below the radio station frequencylabels on the radio display.To set up the number of favorite station pages:1. Press the MENU button to display the

radio setup menu.2. Press the pushbutton located below

the FAV 1–6 label on the radio display.

3. Select the desired number of favorite station pages.

4. Press the FAV button. You may now begin storing your favorite stations forthe chosen number of pages.

To store favorite stations:1. Tune to the desired radio station.2. Press the FAV button to display the

page where the station is to be stored.

3. Press and hold one of the six push-buttons until a beep sounds to store the station.

4. Repeat the steps for each pushbuttonon each page.

Note: Choosing to engage in extendedsearching for specific audio stations orsongs by using buttons and knobs — orto give extended attention to entertain-ment tasks — can lead you to lookaway from the road frequently or longerthan usual. Looking away from the roadfor prolonged periods may cause you tomiss seeing things on the road that youneed to see. Be sure to keep your eyeson the road and mind on the drive —and avoid engaging in extended search-ing for specific items while driving.

XM Satellite Radio offers more than 120channels of digital-quality sound thatgoes wherever you go — coast to coast.XM displays song title, artist and enter-tainment genre.On equipped radios, two additional lis-tening bands are available: XM1 andXM2. To access these bands, press theBAND button until XM1 or XM2 appearson the display.Activation fee and service subscriptionare extra. Available only in the 48 U.S. contiguous states and Canada (if available). For more information, visitXM online at www.XMradio.com or call1-800-852-XMXM (9696).See Section 3 of your Owner Manual.

Setting the Speed CompensatedVolume (if equipped)With Speed Compensated Volume, theradio automatically adjusts the volumeto compensate for road noise as vehiclespeed changes.To set Speed Compensated Volume:1. Set the radio volume to the desired

level.2. Press the MENU button to display the

radio setup menu.3. Press the pushbutton below the auto

volume label on the radio display.4. Press the pushbutton under the

desired setting (Off, Low, Medium or High) to select the level of volume compensation.

5. The compensation will be set once the display times out after 10 seconds.

MP3 Capability (if equipped)If your AM/FM stereo with CD has MP3playing capability, a CD-R or CD-RWcontaining MP3 audio tracks will playautomatically when inserted into the CDplayer. An MP3 symbol will be displayed.Radio Data System (if equipped)When you tune to a Radio Data System(RDS) station, the station name and callletters will appear on the display insteadof the frequency. RDS stations may alsoprovide the time of day, a program typefor current programming and the nameof the program being broadcast.RDS features are available for use onlyon FM stations that broadcast RDSinformation. RDS relies on receivingspecific information from these stationsand will work only when the informationis available.See Section 3 of your Owner Manual.

XM Satellite Radio (if equipped)

Your vehicle is equipped with aPassenger Sensing System located inthe front passenger seat for the frontpassenger frontal air bag, and a passen-ger air bag status indicator located onthe instrument panel center stack.

See Sections 1 and 3 of your Owner Manual.

With the in-dash 6-Disc CD Player, notethat you cannot directly load a CD as insingle-play systems.To load a single CD:• Press and release the Load button.

Wait for the display prompt to load the CD.

To load multiple CDs:• Press and hold the Load button for

two seconds. Follow the display prompts to load each CD. Press the Load button again to cancel loading more CDs.

To play a specific CD:• Press the numbered pushbutton that

corresponds to the loaded CD number on the display.

To eject a CD:• To eject the CD that is currently

playing, press the (Eject) button once.

• To eject all CDs, press and hold the button for two seconds.

If a CD is not removed after several seconds, it will be automatically pulledback into the player.

Note: CDs with any labels may jam inthe CD player. Label a CD using a per-manent marker. If more than one CD isinserted into the slot at one time, or ifscratched or damaged CDs are played,the CD player could be damaged. Whenusing the CD player, use only CDs ingood condition without added labels;load one CD at a time; and keep the CDplayer and the loading slot free of for-eign materials, liquids and debris.

Note: It is recommended that childrennot be placed in the front passengerseat, even with the Passenger SensingSystem. All children should be securedin a rear seat, including an infant ridingin a rear-facing infant seat, a child ridingin a forward-facing child seat and anolder child riding in a booster seat.

Remote Trunk OpeningUsing Remote Keyless EntryTransmitter (if equipped):To open your trunk electronically, pressthe car symbol ( ) on your RemoteKeyless Entry transmitter.Using Interior Release Button:• Press the interior Trunk Release

button ( ) located on the lowerpart of the instrument panel to the leftof the steering wheel.

See Section 2 of your Owner Manual.

Driver’s Seat Adjustments (if equipped)

To raise the seat:• Lift the front lever on the left side of

the driver’s seat (A); then release.Each time you raise the lever, theseat will move up a little more.Repeat until the seat is at the desiredheight.

To lower the seat: • Push down on the lever (A) and

release. Continue until the seat is atthe desired height.

To recline the seat:• Lift the recliner lever (B) to release

the seatback; then move the seat-back to where you want it. Releasethe lever to lock the seatback inplace. Press rearward on the seat-back to ensure it is locked into place.

The OnStar system provides in-vehiclesafety, security, and phone services,available 24 hours a day, 7 days aweek. These services are easilyaccessed through the three OnStar buttons in your vehicle. • Press the blue OnStar button to

connect to an OnStar Advisor for services such as GM Goodwrench Remote Diagnostics or routing and location assistance.*

• Press the white Phone button to access OnStar Personal Calling, a hands-free, voice-activated phone service.**

• Press the red Emergency button to connect to an OnStar Advisor who can contact a nearby emergency services provider to dispatch ambulance, police, fire, or other emergency services to your location.

Tire PressureThe Tire-Loading Information Label tellsyou the proper size, speed rating andrecommended tire inflation pressure forthe tires on your vehicle. This label islocated on the driver-side doorjamb.Overinflated tires produce a harsh ride,while underinflated tires reduce fueleconomy and affect vehicle handling.Both underinflated and overinflated tirespromote tire wear. See Section 5 of your Owner Manual.

Preventing Unauthorized EntryInto the Trunk

To secure your trunk:• Lock the rear seatbacks in the upright

position by pushing them up andrearward until you hear a click. Pushwith your hand over the latch loca-tions to ensure that the latches areengaged.

• Pull on the seatbacks to ensure thatthe latches are secure.

• Locate the red valet lever of the trunklatch, mounted inside the trunk lid(see photo above ).

• Slide the red valet lever to the left(locked position) to activate the valetlockout switch. This will disable theinside release button and the carsymbol button on your Remote Keyless Entry transmitter (if equippedwith RKE). You will now be able toaccess the trunk only with your key.

Jump Starting Your VehicleThe battery is located in the spare tirewell under the load floor in the trunk.Should it be necessary to jump startyour vehicle, either the battery or theremote positive terminal in the enginecompartment can be used. This uniquefeature allows you to jump start the vehicle from either the front or the rearof the vehicle. The negative cable canbe connected to a heavy, unpaintedmetal part of the vehicle or to a negativeterminal on the battery. See your OwnerManual for instructions on how to prop-erly and safely jump start your ION.See Section 5 of your Owner Manual.

Note: When lifting or closing the trunklid with your hand, be careful not toaccidentally move the Valet Lockoutlever (shown above) to the locked position. This will render your RKEtransmitter Trunk Release button inoperative and will require you to openthe trunk with your key.

Automatic Door Locks

All doors will automatically lock whenthe shift lever is moved out of P (Park)in an automatic transmission, or whenthe vehicle speed is greater than 5 mph(8 km/h) in a manual transmission. To disable the automatic door lockingfeature:• Turn the ignition key to Run with the

engine off and all doors closed. • Press and hold the power door lock

button until you hear two chimes.If the automaticdoor lockingfeature is dis-abled, it can beenabled follow-ing the sameprocedure. Youcan follow asimilar proce-dure to enableor disablepower unlock-ing as well.

See Section 2 of your Owner Manual.

Preventing Window FoggingTo keep the vehicle glass fog-free, theclimate control system knob should bepositioned to the Defrost/Heater ( ) orDefrost ( ) setting. The Recirculate button ( ) should be left off. See Section 3 of your Owner Manual.

Removing and Securing theFuel Cap

To remove the fuel cap, turn the capcounterclockwise about 1/4 of a turn. To reinstall the fuel cap after filling yourtank, turn the fuel cap to the right (clock-wise) until you hear at least three clicks.The vehicle diagnostic system candetermine whether the cap has been leftoff or improperly installed. This wouldallow fuel to evaporate into the atmos-phere and may cause the malfunctionindicator lamp to illuminate.See Section 5 of your Owner Manual.

Interior Airflow

Your Saturn continuously supplies freshair to the passenger compartment, evenwhen the fan is turned off. When theoutside temperature is cool, this airflowmay not be desirable. Options to changing the airflow include:1. Redirecting the airflow using the air

outlets. 2. Changing the air temperature using

the rotary control knob.3. Turning on the Recirculate button ( ).See Section 3 of your Owner Manual.

Delayed Door LockingIf you press the Lock button on yourRemote Keyless Entry transmitter whileany door or the trunk is open, the doorswill not lock. Instead, the interior chimewill sound three times. Once all doorsand the trunk are closed, the doors willlock. To cancel this delay, press thepower door lock switch or Lock buttonon the Remote Keyless Entry transmittera second time. See Section 2 of your Owner Manual.

Saturn Security System

Your Saturn retailer can program theoperation of the Saturn Security Systemand Remote Keyless Entry transmitter tomeet your needs. If you want the securi-ty system to arm itself or the horn not tochirp when you lock the vehicle, yourretailer can change these and manyother features. See Section 2 of your Owner Manual.

Retained Accessory Power

Retained Accessory Power allows cer-tain features on your vehicle to continueworking for up to 10 minutes after thekey is turned to Off/Lock, or removedfrom the ignition, and until the driver’sdoor is opened. Some of these featuresinclude the radio, wipers (High speedonly), power windows and sunroof.These features will also continue to workwhen the ignition key is in the Run orACC position.See Section 2 of your Owner Manual.

Automatic Headlamp System (if equipped)

When it is dark enough outside, andyour headlamp switch is in the AUTOposition, the automatic headlamp sys-tem will turn on your headlamps at thenormal brightness, along with otherlamps such as taillamps, side markers,parking lamps, instrument panel lightsand radio display.

You can turn off the Automatic Head-lamp System by rotating the headlampswitch to off ( ). The lights will remainoff until you rotate the headlamp switchto again. See Section 3 of your Owner Manual.

2. Push the seatback forward from thetrunk area or lower the seatback frominside the vehicle.

To close either seatback:1. Rotate the seatback up and rearward

until you hear a click. 2. Push with your hand over the latch

locations to ensure the latches haveengaged.

3. Pull on the seatbacks to ensure thatthe latches are secure.

See Section 1 of your Owner Manual.

Split-Folding Rear SeatbacksYour Saturn is equipped with split-foldingseatbacks that increase the cargo area.Either seatback can be lowered.To fold the seatback(s):1. Open the trunk and pull one or both

of the small handles located in thecenter of the trunk.

Dome Lamp Operation

If the dome lamp switch is set in theDoor position, the dome lamp will comeon when any of the doors are opened.When you enter or exit your car throughthe driver’s door, the dome lamp willstay on for a short period of time afterthe doors have been closed. See Section 3 of your Owner Manual.

Fold-Flat Front PassengerSeatback (Coupe models only,if equipped)

Your Saturn may be equipped with afold-flat front passenger seatback. To fold the seatback down flat:

1. Lift the bar (A) under the front seat tounlock it.

2. Slide the seat to the rearmost posi-tion; then release the bar. Try tomove the seat to ensure the seat islocked in place.

3. Lift the recliner lever (B), located onthe outside of the seat, and fold the seat forward until the seatback disengages.

4. Continue to fold the seat forward untilit locks in the folded position. Pull upon the seatback to ensure it is locked.

Cruise ControlFor your convenience, the cruise controlbuttons are located on the steeringwheel.

(On/Off): Press this button to turnthe cruise control system on and off.

+RES (Resume): Press the top of thisbutton to resume a set cruising speed or to accelerate vehicle speed whilecruising.–SET (Set): Press the bottom of thisbutton to set cruising speed or todecrease vehicle speed while cruising.See Section 3 of your Owner Manual.

Vehicle Symbols, MessageCenter, Warning Lights andIndicators

Your vehicle may be equipped with com-ponents and labels that use symbolsinstead of text. For more informationabout these symbols, see “SafetyWarnings and Symbols” in the Index ofyour Owner Manual.Your vehicle’s instrument panel containsa message center display and warninglights and indicators that alert you tovarious operating conditions of yourvehicle. Check Engine or Other WarningLights with OnStar (if equipped)If your vehicle is equipped with OnStarand your Malfunction Indicator Lamp(Check Engine Light) illuminates, or anyother warning message appears, youcan press the blue OnStar button andspeak to an OnStar Advisor. In manyvehicles, OnStar Advisors can accesscertain diagnostic information and tellyou how serious the condition is andwhat you should do about it.See Section 3 of your Owner Manual.

Red Line Reverse Shifting

To shift into reverse, lift up on thereverse-lockout collar located under theshift knob and move the lever into thegate marked “R.”See Section 2 of your Owner Manual.

CHG OIL MessageIf the “CHG OIL” message is displayedin the message center, it means thatthere is less than 10 percent of theengine’s oil life left. You should changethe engine oil soon. This feature assists in determining whento change the engine oil and filter. It’sbased on the engine operating tempera-tures and revolutions. The system doesnot check how much oil you have, soyou will have to check for that. Resetting Oil Life MonitorAfter changing the engine oil, the oil lifemonitoring system must be reset. Followthese steps to reset the monitor:1. With the engine running or the igni-

tion key in RUN and the engine off,press the trip odometer reset stemonce or twice until the “OIL LIFE” message is displayed and flashing inthe message center.

2. Press and hold the trip odometer but-ton on the instrument panel for a fewseconds until a chime sounds fivetimes.

The “OIL LIFE” message remains onwithout flashing when the reset proce-dure is complete.

If the light illuminates again and remainson for 30 seconds at the next ignitioncycle, the system did not reset. Repeatthe above procedure.See Section 3 of your Owner Manual.
