To set the Hold mode:1. Place the shift lever in the gear range

you want to hold.2. Press the HOLD button located on

the shift lever console. (The HOLDindicator light on the SecondaryInformation Center will illuminate.)

Press the button again to turn off theHold mode and return to normalautomatic transaxle operation.See Section 2 of your Owner Manual.

Automatic Transaxle HoldControl Mode (if equipped)

Integrated with the optional automatictransmission, this feature gives thedriver complete control over thetransmission gear selection. When Hold Control is selected in the “D”position, the transmission is held in 3rdgear, which locks out overdrive (4thgear) and provides additional torque andresponsiveness at most higher speeds. This allows for engine braking duringhigher speed descents and decelera-tions. It also reduces/eliminates wheel-spin when starting out on snow or ice.Similarly, if Hold Control is selected inthe “2” position, the transmission willstart in 2nd gear (instead of 1st), helpingreduce wheelspin when starting out onslippery surfaces.

Note: Since placing Hold Control in the“D” position locks the transmission in3rd gear and prevents downshifts to2nd or 1st gear, acceleration from astandstill or near standstill on dry pave-ment will be slower than expected. HoldControl should be deselected duringthese situations.

Reverse Lockout Feature(Manual Transaxle)

This feature prevents the engagement ofReverse (R) gear when the vehicle ismoving forward. To shift into Reverse (R), depress theclutch pedal; then lift up the ring on theshift lever and shift into Reverse (R).Slowly release the clutch pedal whilepressing the accelerator.

See Section 2 of your Owner Manual.

Note: Shifting into Reverse (R) gearwhile your vehicle is moving forwardcould damage the transaxle. Shift intoReverse (R) only after the vehicle isstopped.

Cold Weather AutomaticTransaxle Shifting

When operating your vehicle in severecold conditions, the transaxle may beprevented from shifting into 4th gearuntil the transaxle fluid has warmed upto its operational temperature. It maytake several miles of driving to warm upthe fluid and enable the 4th gear upshift. While the fluid is warming up, your vehicle will shift normally between 1st,2nd and 3rd gear.

See Section 2 of your Owner Manual.

Opening the Hood
