energy, reduces GHGs by 3,700 tonnes
Transportation: Congestion Charging, London UK
– Discourage driving in Central London with ₤8 daily charge per car
– Revenues support development of public transit system
Municipal Services: Sydney Waste Diversion, Australia
– 70% of municipal solid waste diverted from landfill
– Through anaerobic digestion system, 30,000 tonnes of fertilizer are produced
and 210,000 tonnes of GHGs avoided per year

Consortium (ORCCC) was conceptualized
at the Climate Science Workshop: The
State of Regional Climate Modelling in
Ontario” in February 2010.
• Participants recommended the creation of
an Ad Hoc Committee to establish the new
Ontario consortium.
• The Ontario Regional Climate Modelling Ad
Hoc Committee represented 12
universities, all levels of government,
NGOs, conservation authorities and the
private sector.
A Quick History
• Towards the end of the
committee’s mandate, the
ORCCC Business Strategy was
developed.
• The Strategy was released in
early July to Consortium members
and other interested stakeholders.
• Since then, the Central Secretariat
has been contacting members
regarding funding for initial
projects and establishing the
Advisory Board to lead ORCCC.
Mission and Objectives
Mission: To equip public and private sector decision-makers with high-quality, regionally-specific
climate intelligence to empower them to effectively assess and manage climate risks
as well as invest in adaptation measures.
Objectives: Provide one-window access to multi-disciplinary, multi-sectoral climate change expertise
in Ontario.
Generate high quality, regionally-specific climate intelligence that empowers Ontario
stakeholders to meet mitigation and adaptation needs.
Cultivate constructive collaboration between public and private sector climate
practitioners to advance climate research and build a world class climate industry in
Ontario.

• Overview of global, regional and provincial scale hydrologic impacts of climate change;
• GCM and RCM downscaling and generation of local climate datasets;
• 7-step methodology • Recommends consistency with IPCC-vetted
models (GCMs and derived products) • Case study application to tier 3 water budget

• Facilitates 7-step method • Provides data for future climate SRES X GCM
scenarios • Selects 10 datasets using the ‘percentile method’
