INTRODUCTION Thomson Reuters Eikon for Excel enables you to retrieve real-time, historical and fundamental data in the Excel environment, and provides analytical tools for real-time pricing. After completing this workbook you should be able to:

Use SpeedData to retrieve data for lists ABOUT THIS WORKBOOK This workbook is designed to be used alongside Thomson Reuters Eikon. On the following pages you’ll find a series of exercises that will introduce you to Eikon Excel

Each exercise is marked with this icon, along with a summary of the exercise. Just follow the instructions in the left hand column to complete the exercise. Visuals are provided in the right hand column to guide you and to show you what your screen should look like.

DRAG AND DROP DATA FROM FLEX APPS The easiest and quickest way to download realtime data into Thomson Reuters Eikon Excel is to drag-and-drop the data from an open app.

In this activity, you will drag data from several open Flex apps into Eikon Excel.

To begin, log on to both Thomson Reuters Eikon and Thomson Reuters Eikon Excel. Open a spreadsheet in Excel and open a quote in Thomson Reuters Eikon.

Select the data you require in the Quote app. In the screen at right we’ve selected the price data. Then simply drag and drop it into the destination cell in your spreadsheet

Thomson Reuters Eikon Excel has created the function “RtGet.” This ensures that the data will update in real-time.

You can also drag and drop Quote List data into Thomson Reuters Eikon Excel. Select the data in the quote list. Then drag the data into your spreadsheet and drop it in the destination cell. .

The data now appears in the Excel spreadsheet.

Now we’ll drag and drop data from a chart.

Click and hold the series line and drag it to the spreadsheet. Release the mouse to insert the Chart data.

Note: Chart data imported into Thomson Reuters Eikon for Excel is static, and will not update automatically.

You can also drag a chart image into your spreadsheet. Click on the chart to select it, and drag it into the spreadsheet.

The Chart image is also static and will not update.

LINKING CALCULATORS WITH EIKON EXCEL Thomson Reuters Eikon Excel allows you to link a Calculator to an Excel worksheet using the Rcalc function.

Link a Thomson Reuters Eikon Calculator to an Excel worksheet.

To begin, log on to both Thomson Reuters Eikon and Thomson Reuters Eikon Excel. Open a spreadsheet in Excel. Then open the Swap Points and Outrights

calculator in a Thomson Reuters Eikon Flex Document.

Save your Flex Document. You must save your Flex document before you start the linking process.

Drag and drop the values from the Calculator into Thomson Reuters Eikon Excel to create the dynamic links. A dialog will appear. Click Yes to confirm the link. This will ensure that the values update dynamically.

When you update a field on the calculator, it will dynamically update the spreadsheet. When you next open the spreadsheet, it will automatically open the calculator and update the links.

RETRIEVE DATA USING INSERT FUNCTION As an alternative to drag and drop, you can use the Insert Function Wizard to retrieve realtime data (e.g. bid and ask price), fundamental data (e.g. terms and conditions, and financial reports) and time series data (e.g. daily closing prices). The Wizard offers a quick, intuitive, step-by-step process.

Import price data for two equity stocks into Thomson Reuters Eikon Excel using the Insert Function Wizard.

To begin this exercise, open the Thomson Reuters menu in Excel, and select Insert Function.

The Insert Function wizard will open. We’ll now search for two equity stocks: Marks and Spencer and BG Group. In the Search field, type “marks and spencer” and click Search.

In the Search Results screen, click MKS.L. The instrument is added to the Insert Function Wizard. Repeat the process for BG Group. Click the Next button (located to the lower right) to continue.

Choose the following field IDs from the list of Real-Time and Fundamental fields: Bid Ask Net Chng Volume To add these items, select them in the list at left, and then click the Add button.

You can use the Search to speed up your field selection. For example, enter Total Liabilities into the text box, and click Search or press Enter. Then select Total Liabilities from the list of matches. Repeat the process for Total Assets. Then click Next at lower right.

You can modify any of the values on the Parameters screen. We’ll keep the defaults. Click Next at lower right.

We now see a Summary.

Click Finish to populate your sheet.

Our worksheet is now populated with the data we selected in the Insert Wizard tool. You may want to save your spreadsheet now. In the next exercise, you’ll edit this Insert Function request.

EDITING AND MODIFYING YOUR DATA USING INSERT FUNCTION Once you have created a data request, you can use the Insert Function wizard to add or remove instruments, or change the fields on display.

Add new instruments to an existing Insert Function request.

In this exercise, we’ll use the Insert Function request we created in the last exercise.

You can enter new instrument codes in a blank row in your worksheet. For example, try adding VOD.L and BT.L to a blank cell. Then click the Rdata formula cell, which is the cell at top left containing the word “Updated.” Once you’ve done this, click Insert Function.

The Insert Function Wizard will open. Click Edit to open the Instruments page.

Check the Get instruments from a range of cells radio button. Then click the cells icon.

Select the instruments you want to use. For the purposes of this exercise, select A4:A7. Then click Finish. The spreadsheet updates with data for your updated request. If you want to change a single instrument without adding a new row, overtype an instrument code with the new code, and press Return. To try this out, type SPT.L over BT.L. The spreadsheet will update with real-time data for the new instrument.

ADDING A CHART TO THOMSON REUTERS EIKON EXCEL You can add a chart to your Excel worksheet.

Create a Price Volume Trend chart for Google in an Excel document.

To begin the process of adding a chart, click Insert Chart.

If the Insert Chart button is not visible, click Insert Function. This will cause the Insert Chart button to appear on the toolbar. Click Insert Chart now.

After you click the button, a dialog appears. Select the range of cells where you wish to insert the chart. You can type the range in the text field, or drag your cursor over the selected range in your worksheet.

For this exercise, select a large area in the middle of your spreadsheet. (In the example at right we selected B3 to R 29.)

The text field in the Insert Chart dialog will automatically populates with the cells that you select. When you’re done, click Finish.

This opens the Insert Analysis dialog. Select an Analysis in the box at left. Scroll down and select Price Volume Trend.

Next, type a symbol in the Instrument field. For this exercise, enter GOOG.O.

Then select an Interval.

We’ll choose Daily.

When you’re done, click Add. Then Close the dialog.

The chart is now populated with a Price Volume Trend chart for Google. Once you’ve created a chart, you can quickly customize the chart using in-place editing. For example, we will change the instrument and date range. To view the chart for a different instrument, simply type a new symbol in the chart. Type YHOO.O in the instrument field now.

The chart is now populated with information on Yahoo. Click on the dates at right to change the date range. Type 11/15/2010 into the start date field.

You can also change the chart type. To do this, click on PVT at upper left. A dropdown menu will appear containing a list of alternate chart types. For now we’ll leave Price Volume Trend selected.

The Manage Chart dropdown also allows you to make edits to your chart. Open the dropdown and select Insert Analysis now.

Then scroll down and select the Weighted Moving Average. Click Add.

The analysis appears in the chart. Now we’ll make some changes to the appearance of our chart.

You can change the appearance of your chart. For example you might want to display gridlines or change the chart colour. To do this click Manage Chart. Then Properties. In your own chart try adding gridlines and then change the colour to blue

RETRIEVING DATA USING THOMSON REUTERS EIKON EXCEL SPEEDDATA If you are familiar with field names and instrument codes, Thomson Reuters Eikon Excel SpeedData is a quick and easy way to add realtime and fundamental data to your spreadsheets.

Retrieve Data using Thomson Reuters Eikon Excel SpeedData.

To Use Thomson Reuters Eikon Excel SpeedData, enter the field names you want to use, one per column. For example, add BID, ASK, and RF.IS.Revenue.

Then enter your instrument codes in separate rows. We’ll enter the codes for Microsoft (MFST.O) and Oracle (ORCL.O).

Right click in the cell below BID and select Thomson Reuters Eikon Excel SpeedData.

Thomson Reuters Eikon Excel retrieves and displays data for your selected instruments and fields. This data update in real-time.

USE SPEEDDATA TO RETRIEVE DATA FOR LISTS Thomson Reuters Eikon Excel SpeedData is a quick and easy way to add realtime and fundamental data for a list of instruments.

Insert a previously-saved list into a spreadsheet, and use SpeedData to import dynamic, realtime Bid and Ask prices for the list constituents.

To begin this activity, open a new Excel worksheet. Then add the headers BID and ASK to columns B and C.

Open the Lists dropdown, and select Manage Lists.

The List manager displays your saved lists from Thomson Reuters Eikon. If you like, you can click Refresh to update your lists. Now select a list and click Export to add the constituents to the spreadsheet.

Now right click on the first empty cell in the BID column, and select Thomson Reuters Eikon Excel SpeedData.

SpeedData retrieves the data for the specified fields, and populates the spreadsheet with real-time Bid and Ask information for each of your list constituents.
