If They Only Had A HomeDear Friend of Nature,

"Close your eyes, and tap your heelstogether three times."

That may be the way to get home fromthe wonderful Land of Oz, but for wildbirds looking for a place to raise theirfamilies during spring nesting season,things can be a bit more complicated.

You can play a helpful, interactive rolethis upcoming season by placing nestingmaterials and birdhouses around yourbackyard, possibly enticing some of themany cavity-nesting birds.

Providing birdhouses can make yourbirds' lives a little easier. After all, they'reexpending lots of energy migrating,courting and looking for scarce food.

Most of last year’s natural food sourceshave been depleted, and the majority ofthis year’s seeds and berries won’t beavailable until much later.

The best seeds for providing high energylevels are black oil sunflower, stripedsunflower, peanuts, and safflower. Suet isalso an invaluable high energy food forbirds.

As you can see, there are a variety ofways you can help your birds during thistrying season.
