Network Settings

You need to check that Windows is configured to be automatically assigned an IP address. This is called DHCP. Some ISPs and home router setups will switch this off.

Troubleshooting

If you have trouble connecting using the settings above then try the following:

» Ensure you are using the correct Username and Password from your Intro letter.

» Reset Internet Explorer or your usual web browser to its default security settings. In Internet Explorer go to Tools, Internet Options, Advanced, and click Restore Advanced Settings and click the Reset button below then confirm the reset.

If you have any internet security software such as a firewall, this should be reset to its default settings.

Windows XP

» Control Panel» Network Connections» Right click Local Area Connection» Click on the Properties option» Check that the Obtain IP address automatically and Obtain DNS server address automatically check boxes are selected.

Windows Vista and Windows 7

» Control Panel» Network and Sharing Center» Manage network connections (Vista) or Change adapter settings (Windows 7)» Right click Local Area Connection» Click on the Properties option (agree to permission if required)» Double click on Internet Protocol Version 4 (TCP/IPv4)» Check that the Obtain IP address automatically and Obtain DNS server address automatically check boxes are selected.

Connect your computer to the wall socket in your room using the patch cable provided. If you have two network sockets in your room it is usually the one on the left.

The only Halls of Residence that support wireless connections is All Saints Court (connect to Trinity Wi-Fi).
