40 ASSETSfor Youth to Thrive

The Developmental Assets are 40 internal & external supports youth need to feel safe and supported, make positive choices, and avoid high-risk activities.

The more assets youth have, the more likely they are to thrive, take part in healthy activities and have positive friendships.

However the less assets youth have, the more likely they are to engage in high-risk activities like drugs, crime, violence, dropping out and early sexual behaviour.

Therefore, it is essential to support youth with gaining as many assets as possible to ensure their health, success and well being.

Get Bent staff are trained in Asset Building to support youth positively. Further, Get Bent offers FREE Asset Building Workshops to our member families throughout the year. Also see our upcoming Parenting Course on page 13.–---------------------------------------------------------------

NEW YEAR WELLNESS RETREATSunday, January 5, 2014 ~ 9am-4pm

Sow the Seeds of Success for 2014Nourish Your Life GardenTo grow a beautiful garden, the soil must be cleared and properly nourished. Nothing can thrive in poor soil and a bed full of weeds. In terms of your “Life Garden”, what is preventing you from growing to your full potential? Negative beliefs, conflicting values, poor nutrition, toxic relationships, poor time management etc? During this workshop, Career Counselor, John Goudie and Registered Holistic Nutritionist Raina Lutz will teach you how to:

detoxify your body & mind to create the conditions needed to thrive clear negative beliefs & conflicting values that divert your focus and sabotage your goals nourish your body & mind to experience true health, happiness and passion for life

“To forget how to dig the earth and tend the soil is to forget ourselves.” ~ Ghandi“A weed is no more than a flower in disguise.” ~ James Lowell

Sow the Seeds of a Beautiful LifeSow the seeds that will blossom into a stunning “Life Garden” in 2014! After the soil is prepared, it’s time to select the seeds to plant. However, many people get overwhelmed by choices, pick the wrong seeds, forget to water and weed, and eventually give up. What do you truly want and need from life? What excites you? What deeply fulfills you? Are you living your passion and dreams? During this workshop, you will learn what you need to be fulfilled, how to set rewarding goals and how to ignite the passion you require to stay committed all year.

“Don't judge each day by the harvest you reap but by the seeds that you plant.” ~ Robert Louis Stevenson

Help your Garden Grow & Thrive!Watching your seeds begin to grow is very exciting. During this workshop, you will learn how to support your garden so it flourishes all year. Using the Law of Attraction, you will learn how to attract “more of what you want” and “less of what you don’t want”. Also, you will create a “vision board” that highlights your goals for the year to help keep you focused and motivated.–----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Registration Deadline: Jan 1, 2014 New Year Retreat Day & Catered Lunch: Sun, Jan 5, 2014 ~ 9am-4pm

Essentially, the I Ching is an ancient system that has been used for thousands of years to guide important decisions. The I Ching is a collection of practical wisdom, pertaining to every conceivable situation. Its wisdom embodies the Taoist philosophy of describing all nature and human endeavor in terms of the interaction of yin and yang. Because the readings it gives are simple, yet elegant, profound and intuitive, it is often consulted for its advice and insight into human nature.

Learn how to properly consult the I Ching in this engaging two part workshop. This workshop will provide you with your ownI Ching book and a set of Chinese coins used for readings.
