The Germantown Village Board recently expressedopposition a request to pay for an upgrade to the coun-ty radio system.
During the Oct. 20 Village Board meeting, VillageAdministrator Dave Schornack said police have hadtrouble with hand held radio devices in certain buildingsand locations. The county solution is a 700 MHz systemthat would overlay the current county radio system. Inorder to do the overlay, the county would look to spend$4.25 million while asking municipalities to replace theirown hand held radios. In the case of Germantown, thatwould mean replacing approximately 70 hand held
radios.Schornack said replacing the radios would cost thevillage approximately $250,000.
This just blew our minds, were already working onour budgets, budgets are extremely difficult for all of usto balance, Schornack said. Schornack said all munici-palities who were present during a meeting with countyofficials in September were against putting money intothe upgrade.
This is a county radio system, the county should beworking at making it right, Schornack said.
Schornack said the county is delaying its next meet-ing with municipalities until January on the matter.
Germantown Police Chief Peter Hoell said the 700MHz system is being brought forward because publicsafety users are not satisfied with the county radio sys-tem because of poor in-building reception.
Hoell said the company that created the countyradio system has invited users to a technology day
