Geothermal Energy is the energy stored in form of heat beneath the earth´s surface (defined e.g. in Directive 2009/28/EU)

It is used for:

Power production

Heating • District heating from deep resources • Heating through heat pumps from shallow resources • Heat in agriculture, aquaculture, industry • Spas and balneology Szentes HU

The 2012 world-wide projection of installed geothermal capacity by the TP Geothermal Electricity for 2050 is even higher, at 320 GW (90-100 GW in Europe)

Potential for Geothermal Power Production in Europe

www.egec.org

The vision of the TP on Geothermal Electricity: By 2020: Establishing the base of a European geothermal industry. By 2030: Bringing down the costs for becoming a competitive source of energy. (remark: Geothermal power and heat are already competitive in many areas) Beyond 2030: Provide a substantial part of the energy supply and powering Europe and the world from geothermal
