HISTORY

• Cyprus has been inhabited by the Neolithic age. After civilizations developed during the Copper Age and Bronze Age. Important for the history of Cyprus is Greek arrival of the twelth and eleventh centurys. Greek colonization introduced the language, the art and Greek traditions esestenti today. Cyprus became a Christian later with the arrival of the Romans. In the Roman empire were built the most beautiful churches. With the opening of the Suez Canal Cyprus assumed great importance and became a British colony. It will be independence only in 1960. in 1974 the Turkish troops invaded the north of the island, the island is still separate. Cyprus since 2004 is part of the 'EU.

• The museum of Cyprus in Nicosia is the largest and the largest museum in the island. Its was built from 1905 to 1925 and was dedicated to Queen Victoria as Cyprus was a British colony. the purpose of the museum was to create a space to gather all the finds from the Neolithic period to the Byzantine period . Important in the museum are objects in ceramics, sculptures, jewelry, coins and the statue of Aphrodite (the symbol of the island, in marble).
