By Location
Redlynch valleyo High concentration of 0 to 4 year oldso Low concentration of 15 to 24 year oldo Reason: This area has a high number of young children but a low number of
schooling children indicating that people may move here to escape the city life and
have the chance to sprawl but once their children are of age to be in schools they
more to an area more suited to their education needs.
Aerogleno High concentration of 0 to 4 year oldso Low concentration of Indigenous peopleo Reason: This area contains the international airport and has the space required for
families with newborns to settle. The closeness of the airport deters the locating of
indigenous persons.
Freshwatero High concentrations of 15 to 24 year oldso Low concentrations of Low income houseso Reason: This area is mostly probably an area with some education systems
established; both private and public, and the prevalence of the public schools
encourage houses with high income to settle. This area is also a tourist area, being
one of the stops on the Kuranda Scenic Railway so it has the environmental appeal
necessary to raise home prices.
City (CBD)o High concentrations of 15 to 24 year olds and High income houseso Low concentrations of 0 to 4 year olds, Indigenous persons and Low income houseso Reason: this area is populated with Young adults as they enjoy the lifestyles and
education opportunities afforded to them in the city. The low concentration of
young children is based upon space requirements while indigenous and low income
houses generally cannot afford the city lifestyle.
Bungalowo High concentrations of 15 to 24 year olds and Low income houseso Reason: Most probably this is an area where there are some high education
establishments based on the concentration of university aged students and low
income houses. Most probably this is a pocket of housing for those attending a local
college or university.
Portsmitho High concentrations of Indigenous people and Low income housingo Low concentrations of 63 to 74 year olds and High income houseso Reason: This is most probably an area with cheap housing or housing commission
accommodations as indicated by the high concentration with the less wealthy
indigenous population and low income houses.
Trinity Beach/Park Areao High concentration of Low income housing

o Low Concentration of 0 to 4 year oldso Reasons: There is a connection between income and the prevalence of 0 to 4 year
olds in that where there are areas with low income concentrated there will be fewer
houses with 0 to 4 year olds; this is a clear connection as the process of having and
raising children is expensive.
o Stratford
o Low Concentrations of 15 to 24 year olds, 65 to 74 year olds, Indigenous persons andlow income housing
o Reason: This area is close to the airport but also to a conservation park so it mostlikely has high housing prices indicating that this area is most likely one where high
income houses come to settle or that it is largely vacant due to the disturbances of
the airport.
This information comes from what I have gathered from the map as well as some online research.
As I am an international student I do not know the surrounding area well enough to make truly
accurate examples and reasoning for some of these trends.
