I would like to thank Simon Crean MP for his service tothe Hotham community for the past 23 years.

We have been very lucky to have been served by anMP of the highest quality and with that in mind, I amstrongly supporting Geoff Lake for preselection forHotham.

A talented man representing a new generation of Labor, he will ensure Hotham is well represented inCanberra.

Councillor STEVE STAIKOSSecretary of the ALP HughesdaleBranch and Kingston City Councillor

AMY DUNCAN

Secretary of the ALP Clayton SouthBranch

Sad as I am to see Simon Crean retire, we havean opportunity to now select the best candidate torepresent our area for perhaps the next 23 years.

These are tough times and our party needs renewal. InGeoff we have a person who will support party reform. We must look to the future and not the past.

At 33 years of age and with 13 years experienceat senior levels in local government, Geoff is ideallyplaced to play a key part in shaping the future of our

party as the next Member for Hotham.

I have served on Monash Council with Geoff for 10years. I am proud to call him a close friend.

He has been a key leader on council over that entireperiod. He is a formidable debater, has a forensicmind and is a fiercely loyal colleague. It is theseattributes which have seen him be chosen by mucholder councillors to lead the local government sectorat both the state and national level.

He won’t be someone who just makes up the numbers

in Canberra.

Councillor STEPHEN DIMOPOULOSPresident of the ALP HughesdaleBranch and Monash City Councillor

NICK STAIKOS

President of the ALP MoorabbinBranch and former Glen Eira CityCouncillor

Simon Crean leaves big shoes to fill. It is possible thatby selecting a candidate of Geoff’s capacity, we might

just be able to fill them.

Geoff is one of the few people to have been a fullmember of the Council of Australian Governments(COAG) – serving alongside Kevin Rudd, John Brumbyand the other state and territory leaders.

He knows how to get things done because he hasa long history of getting results, influencing policyoutcomes and communicating effectively in the stateand national media.

Councillor JIEH-YUNG LODeputy Mayor of Monash CityCouncil and Victorian Chinesecommunity leader

Despite having one of the highest proportions of Chinese people in Victoria, Monash had never had aperson of Chinese background serve on council until Iwas elected in 2008.

I would not have been elected had it not been for thestrong backing, encouragement and support frompeople like Geoff.

Geoff is passionate about making our councils andparliaments more representative of the people whoactually live in our community.

As his colleague, I know he has much to offer the localcommunity as the Member for Hotham.

When I decided to run for council last year, Geoff Lake provided me with a lot of support, advice andassistance.

He is passionate about getting good people electedto all levels of government. Although still young, hehas already had a career in public life which is longerthan most.

Having seen what he has achieved at the local level, Ican only imagine what he may do at the national levelif given the chance.

I hope he gets it because he will do a lot of great thingsfor our community.

Councillor MENG HEANG TAK

ALP Clayton South Branch andGreater Dandenong Councillor

Councillor ANGELA LONGMayor, City of Greater Dandenong

I proudly support Geoff Lake’s candidacy forpreselection in Hotham.

Geoff Lake and I have worked closely over many yearsas neighbouring councillors representing residentsliving in Hotham.

As the elected president of the Municipal Associationof Victoria and the Australian Local Government

Association, I saw him skilfully represent the localgovernment sector at the state and national levels. He

earned these positions by being honest, smart andhardworking.

He would be an excellent representative for Hotham.

Councillor MICAELA DRIEBERGMayor of Monash City Counciland member of the ALP OakleighBranch

Geoff has always supported making sure we havestrong representation by women, diverse culturalbackgrounds and young people in key leadershippositions.

He doesn’t just talk it up – he actually works hard todeliver it.

Monash Council has one of the most diverse groupsof councillors of any of the 79 councils in Victoria andGeoff has played a big part in us achieving that.

I appreciate the strong support and encouragementhe has given me over the years.

I have known Geoff since he joined the Labor Party 16years ago.

He is hardworking, collaborative and a fierce advocatefor the people he represents.

He is just the sort of person we want on our sidein Canberra and fighting for our community’s bestinterests.

Councillor SEAN O’REILLY Greater Dandenong Councillor andmember of the ALP Clayton SouthBranch

23 years ago the Labor Party chose a young SimonCrean to represent our area in Federal Parliament. Now we have the opportunity to choose the bestcandidate to follow in Simon’s footsteps.

We need someone who has the potential to play apart in shaping the future of our party and moreimportantly, our country.

Geoff is an example of the generational change ourparty desperately needs.
