Mega has developed a new scraper bowl based on the successful “D” model with numerous improvements based on customer experience.

This new scraper is combined with a current production 631G scraper tractor and wheel groups with the latest in powertrain operator comfort, electronic controls and emissions compliance.

Your Mega MES34 scraper is fully supported and maintained by a fully dedicated Product Support and Technical Communication staff available 24 hours per day, 365 days per year, via phone, and e-mail. Our website offers complete parts breakdown and parts availability for hundreds of our most common service items. Emergency parts ordering is available after normal business hours via our Product Support team.

ADEM A4 Control Module

Controls engine rpm by adjusting the fuel duration, which results in quicker starts in hot and cold weather, better fuel economy, better operator response, reduced exhaust smoke and automatic compensation for altitude and filter plugging.

NGMR Engine Cooling System

The standard radiator for the tractor is the Next Generation Modular radiator (NGMR).

Extended Oil Change Interval

Oil change intervals can be extended to 500 hours with the use of S.O.SSM analysis.

Grouped Service Points

Maintenance and service points for the engine are grouped on the right-hand side for easy access.

Crankcase Guard

Steel skip plates positioned to protect the crank case.

Transmission

Power Train – Transmission

Integrated electronics slows the machine to monitor the power train which reduces stress as well as provides a better ride to the operator.

Transmission

Electronically controlled Caterpillar® planetary powershift transmission with eight forward and one reverse speed. Tractor gear 1 & 2 operate in converter drive for increased torque capability during cut and fill operations. Gears 3-8 operate in direct drive for drive train efficiency during the haul. All scraper gears operate in converter drive for increased torque capability during the cut and fill.

Synchronized Scraper Transmission

The scraper transmission is electronically controlled by the tractor transmission, synchronizing the scraper transmission gear selection with that of the tractor transmission. The scraper transmission cannot be shifted manually. A neutral/run switch, located in the cab, allows the operator to disengage the scraper transmission.

Planetary Design

Provides larger contact area between gears than countershaft transmission for greater load-carrying capacity.

Transmission Hold

Allows the operator to maintain converter for increased drive for the increased rimpull, or hold the current gear for enhanced control.

Programmable Top Gear Selection

Allows the operator to manually set the top gear (3rd -8th) available to match the conditions or to match the hauling speed of the fleet to specific job-site needs.

Retarder

The retarder should be used on downgrades to reduce wear on the service brakes and enhance machine control. The retarder acts as an internal brake on the driveline that minimizes the need to apply service brakes. The operator typically engages the retarder 3 to 4 seconds before the machine begins a downhill grade.

Differential Control

Electronic differential lock helps prevent the drive wheels from spinning in poor underfoot conditions located in the cab.

Neutral Coast Inhibitor

Neutral coast inhibitor prevents the transmission from shifting into neutral if the operator selects neutral while moving.

Final Drives

Outboard-mounted planetary design final drives reduce torque loads on other power train components. Large-capacity, double-row roller bearings and Caterpillar® Duo-Cone seals deliver exceptional reliability in the toughest applications.

Independent Systems

Expanding shoe-type breaks are a cam-operated design that is air-applied and spring released. The breaking systems uses independent front and rear circuits with secondary brakes automatically applied if the service air pressure drops to 380 kpa (55psi).

Parking Breaks

The push-button operated parking break features a spring-applied, air released mechanism that operates the service brakes.

Draft Frame Assembly

A 26 inch mechanical tube with 1 inch thick wall for increased draft frame life, incorporating fuel tank and proven fast fuel system to save both time and money. The 1.5 inch thick bottom plate adds increased rigidity, and a transitional weld replaces a straight line weld to remove stress riser.

Cushion Hitch

The electronically actuated cushion hitch incorporates a parallelogram-type linkage for exceptional strength with nitrogen accumulators to deliver a smooth ride for enhanced operator comfort.

Controlled oil flow dampens rebound oscillation

Leveling valve automatically centers piston in cylinder for all loads.Steel castings are used extensively to eliminate many welding joints and increased strength. Double kingbolt design withstands high external forces and simplifies installation and removal.

Nitrogen Accumulators

Vertically mounted hydraulic cylinder transfers road shock to nitrogen accumulators. Nitrogen accumulators absorb and dampen road shock thus preventing these loads from being transmitted to the operator.

Lockout Switch

An operator-selectable lockout switch, located on the joystick, locks all cushion hitch for improved control of the cutting edge during loading and dumping.

Elevator Design

Single speed reducer & drive motor.

Two piece steel casting mount for ease of component replacement.

Elevator arms moved to inside of bowl to prevent trunnion cracking.

Robust lever-type elevator adjustment mechanism replaces telescopic version.

Improved elevator frame design utilizes upper level steel corner castings and simplified lower frame.

Single drive motor provides improved life over original dual motor design—torque oscillation between motors is eliminated. A high torque hydraulic drive motor turns the elevator at a constant speed under heavy loads. This lets the operator select the best loading depth without continual adjustment. Leaves the cut smooth for easier, more efficient loading on the next pass.

Swinging Elevator

Bowl cutting edge supports a variety of Caterpillar® Ground-Engaging Tools (GET). Cellular construction adds strength and dent resistance to bowl sides and floor.

• Rugged J-link design is used to operate the rotating floor. The rotating floor scrapes the side of the bowl clean without the use of rollers and tracks which can be deformed or bound by falling material.

• Swinging Elevator Mounting System protects flights and cutting edge against sudden shock. Elevator is free to swing upward to accommodate rocks or other large objects and quickly returns to its original position to keep loading the bowl corner system.

• Structural tube design in addition to formed plates to increase strength and durability.

• Hydraulic housing and electrical inside cellular wall.

Several of the optional features listed are designed to enhance the productivity of the MES34. Especially, when the machine is employed in loose (sandy) and or “liquid-like” materials (potash).

Lower Containment Wall

Full width containment structure attached to the apex of the bowl ramp and side walls. This short wall reduces load spillage of loose materials when transiting haul roads.

Bowl Stabilization Shoe

Attaches to existing router bit mounting pattern and provides addition bowl stability when performing precise GPS harvesting in holding ponds.

Upper Containment Wall

A removable full width containment structure attached to the top of the lower containment and upper bowl side walls. The wall provides a full length ramp which allows the elevator flights to lift “liquid-like” material while containing the material both during the loading process and when transiting haul roads. The wall is easily adjusted for different types material harvesting and is removable to assist in elevator maintenance.

Bowl Assembly Side Board

Metal extensions that allows for taller material heaping.

Typical 631G factory type tire brands (Michelin®, Bridgestone®) are available. All tires are subject to availability.

Cab Rear Window Screen – a hinged screen to prevent window damage during loading. Screen is hinged to allow easy access for cleaning of the window.

Drive Tire Mud Flaps – Attached to the drive tire fenders to prevent material sling during loading and hauling.

Rear Draft Frame Guard – Metal guard to protect hydraulic hosing from rock damage.

Bowl Lift Cylinder Guard – Metal guard to prevent rock damage to lift cylinder hydraulic hose attach fittings.

Draft Arm Mud Flaps – Metal shedder and mud flap assembly that prevents material from being lodged between the draft arms and the bowl.

Access Group

The access group consists of handrails and fold away steps.

GPS Mount Group

The mount provides an attachment point for the mast type GPS device that will be centered directly above the cutting edge. The group also contains hydraulic manifolds and hoses installed within the implement valve circuit to allow easy plug-and-play of a GPS bowl control circuit.

Saw Tooth Cutting Edge A modified cutting edge designed to break through a hardened top layer of material.
