TOP 10 THRILLER MOVIES (ACCORDING TO IMDB)

Mentally unstable Antagonist: someone who is blind to their destruction because of their aims seem to be right no matter the cost. E.g. Joker, prisoner, power hungry Rich man.(could be each extreme)

Protagonist: usually involved as a government official attempts to overthrow the antagonist, failure is usually imminent at first. E.g. Police officer, Agent, unknown vigilantes.

A figure of authority over the protagonist. E.g. head of department, Leader of some sort of organisation, Father/figure.

Female: damsel in distress, someone who could potentially get involved deliberately or accidentally.

Male friend: someone for support or help. E.g. Brother, partner.

CHARACTERS IN A THRILLER

Settings can vary widely, from cities to other planets: this would also depend on the sub genre’s.

Major metropolitan area: highly populated area with a wide diverse demographic. The city is segregated between rural and urban areas.

Urban and rural apartments: home to the protagonist, thoughts.

Restaurant: Preferably upper class, the scenes will usually be very important and set the layout for the rest in the film.

Rooftops: usually for audience to see setting and also conversations maybe involved in person and on phone.

SETTING FOR THRILLERS?

Very abstract, and consist of non linear sequences that fit together. (its never straight forward

Life of one man against a numerous amount of others. (mostly outnumbered)

Some sort of act against the law by either the protagonist or the antagonist.

In a thriller the stereotyped Antagonist could be presented as the protagonist.

Flashback/begins with younger self, life at a young age is usually portrayed as negative and rough.

Characters need to work together to meet an end goal, whether that is victory, money or a valuable item.

NARRATIVE THEMES

Generic props used in thrillers are:1.Money2.Guns/knifes (anything that can inflict pain)3.Drugs (depending on narrative)4.Valuable item (jewellery etc.)5.Clothing is mixed depending on setting and class.6.Planes, trains and automobiles.

Questions presented to the audience through enigma codes set in the film.

What could go wrong next for the characters?Will the character die?How did they collect the valuable item?How will the situation be resolved?How could this be related to my life?, can I do that? How is this made to seem so real?How could this have been the possible outcome?
