Audience A successful Horror knows its target audience and will follow patterns of suspense and shock to keep the viewers interested and intrigued. This is a stereotypical feature which is included in various Horror films, and is most typically when the plot builds to its climax.

A useful technique directors incorporate into their work is creating a main character which the audience make a bond with throughout the film – and when involved in a threating or violent position the tension rises.

Audiences vary depending on the horror style; –Zombies, Paranormal, Gore, Fantasy etc. Each style have different requirements to include within their films and must hit a certain aims which is why age ranges are used on Horror films especially due to scenes that shouldn’t be seen for younger years.

Story Lines

Horrors are created to portray violent and threating situations which are done to show

today’s society in a dark and negative light. Each horror story is different in many ways,

some involve antagonists getting away with murder, which is usually left on a cliff

hanger – for maybe a following sequence. Others involve the antagonist getting justice

and being killed off at the end of the disequilibrium. Yet others, both protagonist and

antagonist are killed off which is usually a unexpected situation.

A must have for a horror film is to include features such as; anticipation, tension,

suspense and shock to keep the viewers interested and enjoy watching horrors.

Characters In this particular genre Characters are

essential to telling the story, each

character have different persona’s and

aspects that make the film what it is. Many

horrors use groups within their film which

end up with each member getting killed

throughout the length of the film. Until, the

last male or female is standing. Which in

most modern horror films is noticed that

females are powering and dominating the

disequilibrium, reflecting on today’s society

showing that females are as/or strong as

males. I found this interesting within my

research due to it having a realistic twist to

the film. I seen these situations in films

such as; Eden Lake and The Descent.

Main problems revolve around; revenge or

a romantic love triangles, which end up

into violent and threating situations i.e,

murder.

Framing/ShotsWithin the horror genre directors can use their imagination cleverly and effectively to

create different shots to express different emotions and expressions – which is a main

reason why I would like to create a horror movie trailer. Using simple shots can be the

most effective due to it being focused on the character, location, situation and broader

light and can symbolise various aims such as emotion, setting, and body language.

Paranormal Activity-This frame is clever due to it being a wide and Broad, allowing us as an audience to see what is Going on within the scene and to show the body Language and emotion of the characters involved.

Eden Lake-The following close up of the two protagonists show the fear and torture they have experienced, additionally its emphasising the bond and closeness they have between one another.

PropsHaving mise-en-scene in a film is a necessity

nevertheless, many violent and disturbing

props are used to create the horrifying and

frightening atmosphere. Weapons are a main

aspect to a horror film, these could lead from;

knives, ropes, hammers, machinery and

many more. These props can portray various

events in the film, whether its involving the

protagonist or antagonist.

Other important aspects that are needed

within a horror film is gore and blood –

something that you must take into

consideration when making a horror trailer.

Costumes are an important feature to include

within the film to express the characters

personality and understand which social

group, work or lifestyle they take up.

MusicMusic is an important feature to include due to it creating a clever use of suspense

for the audience when the build up of a climax is happening. Some films allow it to

take over the situation by making it louder and more serious of a matter.
