Media products can be classified into categories or genre. The word ‘genre’ comes from the French word meaning ‘type’ or ‘class’. A genre can be recongised by its common set of codes & conventions. Audiences recongise these features and expect certain things and may choose a text on the basis of its genre. Producers market according to genre, as the niche audience has already been identified.
