The world is turning at a blazing fast speed. Here we are in the year of 2016.

Anytime we reach a turning point, a closing of a chapter of our lives and a start

of another, we are reminded of how short our existence on this earth is and how

quick the time of our lives pass us by. And how precious our time is, with nothing

to waste or carelessly lived.

Time is God’s given resource. So are health, fi nance, energy, friends

and family, and a lot of other things that God has given us so we can

live on earth according to His purpose. Yet, a lot of us fi nd ourselves

abusing, misusing and wasting away these resources either

FromPastor’sDesk

unintentionally or carelessly. We lack self-control on how to wisely manage

these resources so we can be prosperous in using them.

Self-control is one of the fruit of the Holy Spirit. Holy Spirit-empowered people

live lives that are balanced, controlled and fulfi lled. They continually strive to

live their lives in such a way that are Christ-centered instead of self-centered.

Self-centeredness leads to ‘out-of-controlness’. Christ-centeredness, on the

other hand, leads us to a life of self-controlled-ness.

This is a new season in your life. Let’s study the word of God on the subject of

self-control. Let’s aim the goal this year to be more Christ-like and bring glory

to His name by becoming a Christ-centered disciple.

Happy New Year 2016!

How are you? How are things after you graduated? Good. It’s more challenging than I thought. I was so

excited though to graduate. It’s been my desire to

graduate after 8 years of fi nishing my Bachelor’s degree.

Share us a little bit more about what you’re doing I’m doing two things now. One is doing business of

importing stuff from Indonesia and distributing them

here. Second one is starting a software company.

It’s Helpio, right? I have heard about it. Can you share more about it? Maybe give us your best elevator pitch.Haha, I don’t have an elevator pitch yet, but Helpio

is a proximate-based social networking application.

This application will help us connect with people

around us, with local stores, and it also helps

users discover new things, such as freebies, things

on sale, or great events happening around them

without having to go encounter them in person.

Interesting. How is it going with the company? It’s doing good. We have a total of 12 people

including me. Majority of the people are interning

with me. We are planning to launch the app on

February 2016 only in certain Berkeley areas.

Is it only based in Berkeley? It can be used worldwide. But our marketing

strategy is to have a strong community-based

in one particular area fi rst, then grow from one

place to another. So that’s the plan right now.

When and what made you realize that doing start-up is something that you want to pursue? So the fi rst question is when. It’s when I was interning

at HP. I realized that I am the type of person who is not

suitable to work for other people or in a big company.

I like to start my own company and build my own

ideas. Especially, since I just graduated and have no

dependents - kids or wife to take care of, I feel that it

is the right time for me to start testing out the ideas.

How did you come up with the idea?I was in a parking garage. I remember my car was running

out of battery and I needed a jumpstart cable and a car

to fi x it. I was trying to call the insurance company but

it took them a long time, an hour, to come to my place

and do the jumpstart. I realized that if I could broadcast

the message in some locations near my apartment, I’m

sure that there would be someone who had the cable

and had a car. I just did not have a way to broadcast

my message and ask for help. So then I realized that

we are not very connected even in the same location.

Wow, interesting. Do you have anything challenging when you are working for Helpio? Yes. Firstly, it was a challenging decision to build a

start-up and leave a big company I was already settled

in. The opportunity cost is huge - I battled a lot whether

I should really give up or not. Secondly, currently Helpio

has zero revenue and everything comes from my pocket.

When I decided to rent an offi ce, it was also a diffi cult

decision since now, we are spending more while still

not earning any revenue. It was quite a big decision

but I decided to rent an offi ce on November 6, which

is my birthdate. So in a way, it was a gift for Helpio.

Managing people can also be tough sometimes.

Building a company defi nitely sounds challenging but I believe it will pay off !

Do you have any testimonies to share how God has helped you through all of this? Sure. First, I think it’s people. I’m blessed by people. I have

a team of 12 and those people came to me by themselves.

They wanted to be in the project by their own initiatives.

They approached me and said, “Hey, I am interested in

your project. Can I be a part of it? Can I work for you?”

It’s a huge blessing because normally people have

ideas and time but do not have the team to build it. So

the team that I have right now is a blessing for me.

Speaking about people, you also lead one of the caregroups in Berkeley that is Heroes. How is it so far leading Heroes? It’s mostly men and sometimes they are quite hard to

control. Haha. Earlier this semester, I was the only one

leading the caregroup. It was so tough and I wished there

were more people who could help me out. I’m glad that

Hendry joined the caregroup and helped out in leading.

In fact, he is a people-person. He has the passion for the

lost and the people in the caregroup. He is a very good

helper. Actually, I consider him as a partner instead of

helper. We now have a desire to disciple more leaders so

that two can become four, four can become eight, and so

on. But defi nitely, it’s fun to lead a caregroup with all men.

What do you normally do in caregroups besides the normal fellowship? We spent three weeks talking about the Five Love

Languages this semester. You might be wondering

why three weeks when one week should be enough. I

personally like to do it twice with different versions, one

is the teenager version and one is the regular married-

life version. I found it really useful to understand the

love languages. I personally want to teach them deeper

and not just knowing what is yours and each other’s

love languages. We also talked about why we needed to

understand this and how to discover our love languages.

We also learned how we can benefi t from understanding

each other’s – and it’s not actually for boys to girls

relationships, but also can be for friendships, between

you and your teacher, you and your roommate as well

as between you and your family. Family is actually

one of our biggest topics. We feel that after the

discussion, now I know why my parents act this way

and that way and how I can relate with them better.

Do you have any words or encouragement or advice for people who are graduating and looking for jobs? I believe that it was a very daring move for you to leave your old job to start your own company.

I know that many of us have diffi culties in understanding what we want to do after we graduate, do you have anything to say for us?I think that you will know that your life will be shaky

after you graduate. Finding jobs, internships, life

partners, whether you should go back for good to

Indonesia or fi nd a job here, and so on. Everything is so

cloudy but one thing remains is our God. His promises.

He said He is always going to be faithful with us. So

if we hold on to something that is faithful, we don’t

have to worry about all those other stuffs. Imagine

you are holding on to a very strong pipe that stands

still, no matter the weather - stormy day, rainy day -

the pipe is always going to stand strong and you can

always rely on it. So that’s why we need to hold on

to something that lasts for eternity. Don’t follow the

crowd because you will be shaken and confused and

will fall. Hold on to the strong pipe – that is Jesus.

Anything else you want to share with Genesis or with the church?Hahahaha hmm.. Join Sound System Ministry!

Sure! Is Sound System recruiting now? It’s always recruiting. We always lack people. The thing

about it is that a lot of people feel that sound system

ministry requires an advanced skill – your ears have to

be in tune, or you have to understand something very

technical. The truth is, we all learn it by doing it. So I

hope that more people can be interested without having

to worry about this stereotype we currently have.

Defi nitely! Sounds good. So, join Sound System Ministry, guys!Thank you, Om! Have a good day and God bless you!

At the beginning of every New Year,

we all begin to think about New

Year’s resolution. My New Year’s

resolution last year was to manage

my stress better and become a more

“relaxed” person. Anybody who has

known me since last year can clearly

say that “relaxed” Alex did not

happen. Of course sometimes, all

of us make resolutions that we fail

to keep. The good news is that each

year is an opportunity for a new

beginning and a fresh start. In fact,

everyday is an opportunity for a new

beginning because God’s grace and

mercy are always new every morning.

A resolution is usually for us to

improve ourselves, which is always

a good thing, especially if we make

a resolution for our spiritual lives.

This year, instead of making a

physical resolution, why don’t we

all make a spiritual resolution and

commitment to have a closer walk

with Him throughout this new year?

When we walk with God, we enter

into an intimate relationship with

Him. He becomes our number one

priority and our heart’s greatest

desire. So, I want to encourage

everyone to refl ect upon our lives

in 2015 - have we put God fi rst

in all aspects of our lives?

Walking with God in 2016 Our pastors and leaders that they

abide in His word.

Our two new services in downtown

Pinole and Sunnyvale. Pray for the

church to have zealous heart to

serve their community and also for

fruitfulness.

Our church will grow to be more

Christ-like.

Holy Spirit to touch and refresh

those who are heavy laden and

tired.

Our care group gathering. Let’s

pray that there will be unity and

evangelism heart.

Our new friends that they may fi nd

a new family in Christ through this

church.

Our friends who are still looking

for job.

Protection and joy for our friends

who are on vacation

In Jesus’ name.

Amen.

LET’S PRAY

FOR JANUARY

with Joan Wirolinggo

Everyone has a different walk with

Jesus. In 2015, I personally struggled

in keeping my faith with the Lord.

I prayed hard over my struggles,

yet most of the time, doubt and

worry seeped into my heart. The

emotional stress I was experiencing

overshadowed my faith in Him and I

was putting my stress as a priority

when God should have been fi rst.

Proverbs 3:5-6 says, “Trust in the

Lord with all your heart and lean

not on your own understanding; in

all your ways submit to him, and

he will make your paths straight.”

This year, I plan on surrendering

my walk with God according to

these verses. Although I may not

understand the struggles I will

be experiencing in the future, I

want to surrender my obedience

according to His word.

Although our walk with God may

seem diffi cult, it is not because of

Him. Often times, it is because we

ourselves shun God’s grace and

mercy by walking with our own will.

That is why we should put God and

His word fi rst in our lives above all

else. It will be the light that will guide

us during our walk with Him in 2016.

Highlights of 2015Can you believe it, 2015 has passed and now we are here given a new chapter to write! 2016 will be another great year for IFGF Pinole, but fi rst, let us take a quick recap on what IFGF Pinole has accomplished in 2015.

JAN ‘15: PVHS or Open Arms ClubDid you know that our church enjoys presenting

the Gospel to the surrounding community?

In January 2015, we have created a high

school club at Pinole Valley High School to

become an extension to the students in the

area. Every Thursday, we have club meeting

where the students can share their happiness

and burden and learn more about the word

of God. Want to be involved? Contact your

leaders and ask more about the club!

APR ‘15: Easter PlayPretty sure you did not miss our Easter Play!

The Promise drama musical, produced and

performed by our very own families and

friends, drew large crowds as we celebrated

the death and resurrection of Jesus Christ.

The play was also a means to introduce the

launch of our new Sunday morning service.

MAR ‘15: BaptismOne of our happiest moments is when we see

our brothers and sisters surrender their live

and soul to God, declaring that Jesus is the

one and only God. During our retreats, 5 of our

members got baptized. . If you ever decide to

get baptist, feel free to reach out to anyone

from our church to fi nd out how to prepare for

baptism and when the next retreat will be.

JANUARY 2016 • 07

APR ‘15: Morning Service LaunchedWe also launched a new morning service

in conjunction with our mission to reach

the locals in early April 2015. The morning

service is held every Sunday at 10am at 880

Tennent Avenue. As of today, we have about

20-30 faithful members gathering every

morning to worship and praise the Lord.

OCT ‘15: South Bay Service LaunchedAlso this year, we launched a new service at

South Bay area. So if you go to SJSU, USF, or

AAU, or live and work in the area, you should give

this branch of ours a shot. Our newly launched

South Bay Service is dedicated especially for

you guys. This service will soon to be called

the IFGF Pinole in South Bay Campus branch.

The service is held every Sunday at 10.30am

at 550 East Remmington Drive, Sunnyvale.

JUL ‘15: Nepal CareNepal Care is our mission outreach program

in Nepal. We sent volunteers from our church

to help spreading the word of God to locals.

This year, we managed to reach 25% increase

in our number of church and completed our

Earthquake aid program in July. Optimistic

for a bright future, we purchased a land in

Lete for our upcoming IFGF Lete. Let’s keep

on praying for God’s presence among our

churches in Nepal and that God may increase

the numbers of people who come to the Lord.

Sounds like a great year, isn’t it? With a whole new blank page to write on, let’s make sure we create a bigger, better history in 2016! Let’s come together and anticipate more of God’s work for our church across all of our campuses and may His name be even more glorifi ed.

Happy New Year Pinole,

Genesis Team
