Generation Y In the Workplace
HOW TO RECRUIT THEM
JOB SECURITY IS NOT THEIR TOP PRIORITY
“You only live once, YOLO!” is the catch phrase made popular by today’s employees and that means seeking a workplace that brings a great experience (every day) to the applicant.
YOU MAY BE THEIR FIRST EMPLOYER – EVER.
Scared? Don’t be, they are open to being taught how you want them to work for you and are excellent students. Accept them for who they are! Some info on millenials:
RECOGNITION IS
IMPORTANT.
Keep in mind that this generation was raised by a set of parents that focused on building dear son or daughter’s self esteem.
“Don’t you settle for anything less than what you deserve – because you are special” was the mantra of our parenting”
ADAPTATION #1: FEEDBACK AND RECOGNITION
“But commenting on their progress makes the greater-good serving Millennial feel they are working with a purpose”
“The Generation Y worker is happy to put in the time and effort, as long as you’re willing to
acknowledge it. ”
ADAPTATION #2: FLEXIBILITYHowever, your Millennial employee will serve you better if you give them the flexibility to find their way to your
desired results.
“Offer suggestions as to what has worked in the past, but then take a moment to discuss with them how they might tackle this project”
ADAPTATION #3: WELLNESS AND BALANCE AND BEING GREEN
Taking a lesson from generations past, the Generation Y worker values their livelihood and
sanity by committing to the ideal of working smarter, not harder. When applicable, offing your
employees a telecommuting option can save time, money and the environment.
ADAPTATION 4: GROWTHAfford the Millennial employee the opportunity to continue learning and building their skills.
By making an investment in their continued education, you are providing yourself with a more appreciative and knowledgeable employee.
THANK YOU
