Generation UK: China Network The Generation UK: China Network is a legacy initiative of the Generation UK – China campaign. Through this campaign, a growing number of young people from the UK are gaining experience in China. This network aims to extend and deepen the engagement of British students with China after they return home. About the Generation UK: China Network Managed by the British Council, the Generation UK: China Network aims to: extend and deepen the engagement of young British nationals with China once they have returned to the UK, strengthening the legacy of student exchange create a vibrant network of UK nationals with experience in China from across different industries, professions and age groups provide a platform for UK nationals with experience in China to interact with one another to develop entrepreneurial, business and academic connections related to China showcase the benefits that experience of China brings to an individual’s employability and skills development. The network revolves around an interactive and events-focused LinkedIn group, for which we aim to have 20,000 members by 2020. The network was officially launched in September 2015 at the 3rd UK-China High- Level People-to-People Dialogue in London, and held its inaugural event in February 2016, co-hosted by the Chinese Embassy in the UK. Benefits of joining the Generation UK: China Network The benefits of joining this group include opportunities to: attend biannual high-profile networking events keep informed about developments in China and current job opportunities offered to us by partner companies such as BT, Huawei and other multinational corporations interact with successful Chinese business men and women and 20,000 other China-focused individuals, including our Leading Lights. Leading Lights We have selected a number of UK nationals to join the Generation UK: China Network as Leading Lights. Leading Lights are individuals at the forefront of their respective fields and who have benefited from experience in China. These successful individuals come from a range of sectors including diplomacy, business and media. The Leading Lights are active participants in the LinkedIn group and will attend our events as guests, keynote speakers or panellists. Interacting with the Leading Lights as well as with our invited Chinese business men and women will open up new channels for collaboration, exchange and business with China. Some examples of our Leading Lights include Gordon Orr (Senior Advisor, Asia, McKinsey & Co.) and Pia MacRae (Country Director, Save the Children, China). Champion Ms Barbara Woodward CMG OBE, British Ambassador to the People's Republic of China, is the Champion for the Generation UK: China Network. The Ambassador will support in raising awareness of the initiative and advocating for greater engagement, building trust and understanding of the network, and making sure it lives up to its potential and ambitions.
