GENERATION-1 to GENERATION-3 Upgrade
The Next Generation
GENERATION 1
(MIT1)
GENERATION 3
(MIT3)
MIT GEN-1 with FlexCool Controller(Cooling Zones Only)
Air Valve GEN-3 with 3rd Party Controller(Cooling Zones Only)
MIT GEN-3 with 3rd Party Controller(Fan-Powered Heating & Cooling Zones)
Example GEN-1 Zone Upgrade
This wiring schematic is an example of the required modification work.
Job specific conditions, existing controls configuration, and upgrade
scope may require a slight change to the wiring and controls.
Benefits of GEN-1 to GEN-3 Upgrade
1) Improved Flexibility of Controls
a) Open protocol
b) 0-10 VDC
c) 3rd party controls
2) Improved Ventilation Efficiency and indoor air quality
a) Better air throw
b) Better stratification
c) Higher ventilation effectiveness
d) Allows for lower outdoor air
3) Better Controls
a) Improved occupant comfort
b) Increased productivity
c) Reduced energy use
Benefits of GEN-1 to GEN-3 Upgrade
Air Distribution Configuration
Floor supply of cool air and ceiling return provided
that the 150 fpm (0.8 m/s) supply jet reaches
vertical throw is greater than 50 fpm (0.25 m/s) at a
height of 4.5 ft. (1.4 m) or more above the floor.
Note: Most underfloor air distribution systems
comply with this provision.
Floor supply of cool air and ceiling return, provided
low- velocity displacement ventilation achieves
unidirectional flow and thermal stratification or
underfloor air distribution systems where the
vertical throw is less than or equal to 50 fpm (0.25
m/s) at a height of 4.5 ft. (1.4 m) above the floor.

TABLE 6-2:
ZONE AIR DISTRIBUTION EFFECTIVENESS
Benefits of GEN-1 to GEN-3 Upgrade
Higher zone air distribution effectiveness
allows for less required minimum amount
of outside air for a space.
Lower amount of conditioned outdoor air.
Lower energy usage.
