ADIPOSE-DERIVED STEM CELLS AS A SOURCE FOR TISSUE ENGINEERING

Possible Sources:ASCs or ADSCsNomenclature: International Fat Applied Technology Society advocates use of the term, “ASCs” to refer to either “adipose-derived stem cells” or “adipose-derived stromal cells”

ADIPOSE TISSUE STEM CELL RECOVERY

Lipoaspirate Liposuction surgeries can yield anywhere from

100 mL to >3 L of lipoaspirate tissue Independent studies have determined that

liposuction aspiration alone does not significantly alter the viability of SVF cells

When ultrasound-assisted liposuction is performed, a reduction is seen in the number of cells recovered as well as their proliferative capacity

Lipoaspirate may be a superior source of ADSCs, since it already contains finely minced fragments (generated by cannulation)

Alternatively, cadaveric adipose tissue can also be considered as a possible source.

DECELLULARIZATION

ECMStem cells, when cultured, will secrete extracellular matrix (ECM) which, once decellularized, can be used for tissue engineering purposes and other applications."
