You need to be able to:
– Move parts of a slide around– Enter answers into boxes– Switch between here (PowerPoint) and the internet– Save your work regularly– Follow the instructions (they are in this colour), then delete
the instructions including this slide.– Avoid printing until you are told to.
Advantages and Disadvantages
• Use the internet and any other material to find the advantages and disadvantages of various ways to make electricity. As you read, look for information such as the following:
• Is the resource renewable?• Can you count on it always working?• Does it cause pollution and what kind of pollution?• Does it take up lots of land?• Is it expensive to set up?• Is it expensive to run?• Can it be built anywhere or does it need to be built in a specific
place?
Natural Gas
• Advantages– Unlike burning coal, burning
natural gas does not release sulfur dioxide.
• Disadvantages– Burning natural gas releases
a large amount of carbon dioxide into the atmosphere.
Use the internet sites provided to find the advantages and disadvantages of using natural gas to generate electricity. Two have been done for you.
Think about pollution and
efficiency
Solar Cells
• Advantages • Disadvantages
Use the internet sites provided to find the advantages and disadvantages of using solar cells to generate electricity.
Are solar cells efficient?
How much do they cost?
Wind Turbines
• Advantages • Disadvantages
visit some of the internet pages to find out about wind turbines.
Think about the ways that the turbines affect
the environment
Hydroelectricity
• Advantages • Disadvantages
Think about what
happens to land
Think about pollution and
efficiency
More Advanced
• In the next slides you need to think about– Wasted energy – Extra energy transfers
Tidal Barrage
• Advantages • Disadvantages
Think about how the
barrage effects the
environment
Think about how much electricity we can produce and pollution
Wave Power
• Advantages • Disadvantages
Think about the reliability and
pollution
Think about the costs
Wood Burning
• Advantages • Disadvantages
Is wood a renewable resource?
Is there any pollution?
Geothermal Energy
• Advantages • Disadvantages
Is geothermal energy
reliable?
Where do the plants need to be
built?
Extra Tasks
• There are other types of energy resources that you might find out about. Look up and add slides about– nuclear power, – alcohol fuel or – hydrogen fuel cell or even – solar heating and add these to your show.
