General Trias partners with CODEB for its 7th StudentSummit
by the Local Communications Group-Gen. Trias
The Council of Deans and Educators of Business (CODEB) Region IV-A, an organization of tertiary educational
institutions offering business courses in CALABARZON, sought the partnership of the Municipal Government for the
7th Student Summit for future business professionals. The successful event was held in the General Trias Cultural
and Convention Center last September 18, 2013. The Summit aimed to orient business students on product and
personality branding and to develop among them partnership, camaraderie and networking. It was participated in by
almost 2000 business students from 18 colleges and universities from various parts of the region.
The current president of CODEB and LPU-Cavite’s VP for Administration and Registrar, Ms. Maria Teresa O. Pilapil,
formally opened the event at around nine in the morning. Honorable Mayor Antonio “Ony” A. Ferrer, through Vice Mayor
Maurito “Morit” C. Sison, warmly welcomed the guests and participants with an inspiring message.
The Governor, Honorable Juanito Victor “Jonvic” C. Remulla, Jr., through Board Member Rex Mangubat of
Dasmarinas, emphasized the importance of a good reputation and effective branding in business. Cavite has gone a
long way. From its reputation as home province of notorious gang leaders and M-16s several decades ago, it has
become one of the economic powerhouses of the region as it has rapidly gained positive reputation. Vice Governor,
Honorable Jolo Revilla, also extended his greetings through Atty. Katherine Mayuga-Perez, which was followed by an
intermission number by Louise Delos Reyes of GMA Artists Center who is a student of LPU Cavite.
The first session of the Summit featured Binalot Fiesta Foods, which was the first quick service food chain that
popularized the use of banana leaves. Ms. Maricris Antonio, Operations Manager discussed how innovation, pride for
Filipino heritage and making use of indigenous and eco-friendly resources hit several birds for the Binalot business.
A number of questions were raised after the presentation which the speaker was able to answer sufficiently, to the
delight of eager students.
The second speaker, Mr. Pocholo Gonzales, a known personality in the voice industry (radio drama, dubbing, voice
coaching, etc.) made his presentation very interesting by his live demonstration of a radio drama that he created.
Through careful cultivation of his craft, he was able to reach greater heights of success. According to him, instead of
chasing or following our dreams, we should lead them to realization.
A trade fair and exhibit was also held in conjunction with the program. A total of eleven small- and medium-scale
enterprises, which are proudly Caviteno, were able to showcase various products ranging from food, delicacies,
indigenous crafts and interesting finds. The program was concluded by Dr. Amado Magsino, President Emeritus of
CODEB.
