Project Rationale

�The focus of the project is to revise, develop and establish maritimeundergraduate study programmes as well as IMO model courses forseafarers, all in accordance with IMOs STCW Convention requirements.

�International Maritime Organization (IMO) / STCW Convention requirementsrelated to education and training of seafarers.

�All necessary changes and harmonization of curricula to be carried out by2016.

�Revision of existing and development of new undergraduate studyprogrammes;

�Upgrading teaching materials and methodology, and (re)training of teachingstaff;

�Introduction of IMO model courses (LLL) for training of seafarers;

�Survival of maritime higher-educational institutions and their competitivenessin the international market, thus ensuring the competitiveness of theseafarers from Montenegro and Albania, as well.

Project Summary

• The main objective of MArED project is to overcome a problem of competentand qualified human resources in maritime sector in Montenegro andAlbania.

• It will be achieved through the modernization and harmonization ofeducational and training system in accordance to IMO and STCWConvention requirements.

� revision of existing and development of new undergraduate maritime study

programmes and IMO model courses,

� (re)accreditation and start-up of curricula,

� improving infrastructural and teaching resources,

� establishing a mobility scheme between EU and Partner Country universities,

� fostering cooperation between academia and maritime sector.

MArED project is planned to be realized through:

• All established resources will be shared between partner universities withpossibility to involve other PC universities and institutions.

Specific Objectives

� Modernization and harmonization of undergraduate study programme Navigation (180 ECTS) in linewith IMOs STCW Convention requirements at UoM and UV;

� Modernization and harmonization of undergraduate study programme Marine Engineering (180ECTS) in line with IMOs STCW Convention requirements at UoM;

� Development of new modern and harmonized undergraduate study programme MarineElectrotechnics (180 ECTS) in line with IMOs STCW Convention requirements at UoM;

� Modernization and harmonization of undergraduate study programme Naval Engineering (NavalArchitecture and Marine Engineering) (180 ECTS) in line with IMOs STCW Convention requirementsat UV;

� Development of new postgraduate (MSc) module (8 ECTS) in field of Marine Financing and MarineMarketing at UNISHK;

� Accreditation/re-accreditation and implementation of undergraduate maritime study programme atUoM and UV;

� Development of modern and harmonized training of seafarers through IMO model courses (LLL) atUoM and UV;

� Accreditation and implementation of IMO model courses (LLL);

� Update existing and build new teaching and infrastructural resources in order to meet the existingstandards in maritime education and training;

� Establishing a permanent and sustainable mobility scheme between EU and PC partners;

� Fostering cooperation between academia and maritime sector industry and service sectors.

Our plan is ambitious, but realistic.

• 3 state universities from MNE and ALB with numerous and versatile specialists

• relevant stakeholders (ministries, shipping companies, ports, maritime

authorities, SMEs and NGOs).

• 5 EU partners: ES, SI, RO, CRO (responsible for advising and monitoring of

harmonization and modernization processes) and AT(experience in e-learning)

Project Dissemination

• The dissemination activities will start with the project start up.

• They are designed to reach the critical mass awareness, which will contribute

to the project sustainability.

• The dissemination will cover consortium partners, other PC universities and

stakeholders, as well as EU universities

• The wide range of activities includes:

• Internet, establishing common web site/portal with the relevant information;

• Social networks and e-mail lists;

• Advertising materials (flyers, posters, booklets, souvenirs);

• Student events such as info days;

• Printed media, radio, TV, newsletter, interviews, magazines, etc;

• Academic and research events (conferences, workshops, round tables,

seminars, etc.);

• Distribution of teaching material and other relevant information available at

the universities’ Moodle portals;

• Informative sessions, direct visits and presentation at faculties, high schools,

marine sector enterprises, chamber of commerce, etc.;

• Development of students/seafarers alumni base for providing feedback from

graduated students and seafarers regarding their further professional

training, employment and similar.
