DIESEL SERVICE, RECONDITIONING AND PARTS EXCHANGE

Service

S-T Diesel and Marine Group’s experienced service engineersare available to carry out or supervise engine overhauls on aworldwide basis.

Refurbishing major engine components can achieve worthwhilereturns by extending lifespan and increasing operatingefficiency and profitability. The reconditioning process takesplace in well-equipped workshop facilities, each itemundergoes stringent inspection and is carefully tracked andtested. A detailed overhaul report is supplied with each order.We ensure rigid compliance with health and safety guidance andexercise a general duty of care with regard to our environment.

Parts exchange

Where time is critical we offer a service exchange program enabling customers to keep downtime to an absolute minimum.The principle of these schemes is simple: customers are provided with remanufactured and guaranteed components (frequently their own) in exchange for worn components removed during the service. Components which are usually covered under these schemes include cylinder heads, fuel pumps, injectors, water and lube oil pumps and turbochargers.

Durability coatingsThese tungsten-carbide coatings are specifically formulated to provide protection against abrasion and cavitation. The coating is applied using the high velocity oxygen fuel (HVOF) technique operated under technically prescribed parameters.

Old units are received in our workshops. Their receipt is recorded and the castings marked and documented for reporting and traceability purposes.

Any valves and stud work are removed and the casting inspected for damage using crack detection and pressure testing techniques.

Valve guides and valve seats are removed and the bare head is thoroughly de-carbonised and cleaned.

Valve seat locating pockets are inspected and reworked as necessary, the flame and gasket faces are re-skimmed as required and the replacement seats are cut back to original specifications using the Chris Marine equipment.

With guides fitted, the valves are ‘lapped’ into their respective seats for individual fit and the head is reassembled. The hydraulic pressure test and final inspection are conducted before the head is painted, preserved, if required, and packed to customer specific requirements.

Reclassification is available on request. but all repairs are covered by our own internal report which identifies the work carried out and provides full traceability of your units.

We offer a comprehensive service from engine to the propeller, including full overhaul of propeller hubs, bow thrusters, shaft couplings and sterntube seals. Our team of experienced engineers is dedicated to the maintenance and repair of a wide range of sterntube seals on a worldwide basis.

Original spares, correct tolerances

Not only is all work carried out fully guaranteed, but, even more importantly, you can be sure that your seals are reassembled with original spares in full accordance with manufacturers’ tolerances.

Computerised records, advice for future docking

At the end of every job a report is given to the customer, listing full details of work carried out and the condition of the seal, together with any recommendations for the future. All reports are added to our database and can be referred to for future planning or maintenance schedules.

Time required to replace seals

Depending upon the circumstances found on site, our engineers will typically require three days to complete standard or straightforward repairs including bonding.

Our engineers liaise closely with superintendents and the shipyard in order to ensure the work is carried out as quickly as possible.

Class approved bonding of seals in situ

It is possible to replace the sealing rings without pulling the shaft by cutting off the old sealing rings and then vulcanising the new sealing rings using a specialist bonding device and a patented two-component adhesive. This bonding procedure is approved by class as a permanent repair.

Propulsion systems

Our engineers have many years of experience in the servicing, maintenance and repair of propulsion systems and thrusters including:

• Wärtsilä/Lips range of CPP and thrusters

• Schottel propulsion units (approved service station)

We can machine new components and carry out a control system analysis with full retrofits if required.

Propeller repair

All welding repairs are performed to class approved procedures. Our engineers carry out:

• welding in-situ or in the workshop

• on site balancing

• scanning of blades

• ultrasonic crack detection

• manufacture of replacement blade tips, complete blades and propellers

Mobile balancing and measuring equipment

• mobile balancing and measuring equipment for propeller blades up to a weight of 6.5 tons

• blades are balanced within a tolerance of 2.5kg

• CPP blades can now be measured in any location

We can offer machining and delivery of:

• propeller and thruster hubs and parts

• rudder or tail shafts up to 20 meters
