Level 1, Slab-On-Metal Deck and Beam Concrete Placement ObservationA scheduled concrete placement started at 8:00 a.m. for the slabs-on-metal deck on Level 1 at grid lines C-E/11.4-13, A.2-A.7/9-10.1, A.2-A.3/10-10.5 and A.2-A.7/10.5-11, and the 2nd lift of the waler beams on Level 1 at grid lines A-A.7/9 and A-A.7/11. When the boom pump had started placing concrete along the 2nd lift of the waler beam at grid lines A-A.7/9, starting at A-line and working east, it was observed that the concrete mix being placed was not the 6000-psi that is called out in schedule S003 for mild reinforced beams. The concrete pour stopped, and approximately (1 to 2) cubic yards had been cast in the 2nd lift of the waler beam. The contractor did not remove the 4000-psi concrete out of the beam. The contractor pumped the remaining 4000-psi concrete in the queue in the bottom 12” to 18” in height of the curb wall along grid lines A.2/9-11 and the slabs-on-metal deck at grid lines A.2-A.7/9-10.1, A.2-A.3/10-10.5 and A.2-A.7/10.5-11. The contractor ordered and placed 6000-psi concrete to finish the 2nd lift of the waler beam at grid lines A-A.7/9 and the full 2nd lift of the waler beam at grid lines A-A.7/11. The 6000-psi concrete was placed in the remaining portion of the waler beam only (15 to 20) minutes after the 4000-psi concrete had been placed.

See attached plan views and photos for additional information.

Structural Masonry

Level 1 SCL Exhaust Vault RepairJ&S Masonry continued to replace the 8” block for the repair of the top 4” of the (2) Seattle City Light exhaust vaults at grid lines R.7 and S.7/17.2 in Zone B Level 1. Reinforcing steel has been inspected for placement and damage. Reinforcing steel is installed per approved plans and documents.

J&S Masonry mixed Mutual Materials Professional Grade Type S mortar on site per manufacturer’s recommendations, and re-tempered as needed on site and used in laying of 8x12x16” CMU blocks for masonry walls. Mortar joints were per plan and the fins were acceptable; the joints were struck off and within specified tolerances of MSJC ACI 530-13. Reinforcement was inspected for size, grade, lap splice and spacing per schedule S522 and S521.

Seismic ClipsObserved the installation of 1/2” Hilti KB-TZ wedge anchors horizontally installed in place of missing anchor bolts in masonry wall at Level B2 along grid lines S-U.8/12. Anchors were 6” in length achieving roughly (6) 3” effective embedment couple locations. RFI 3373, reviewed by MKA, instructs the installation of a third 1/2” Hilti KB-TZ with 3-1/4” of embedment. Verified what was installed met RFI and manufacturer’s specification.

• The embedment for (5) anchors ran into reinforcement. Clark is seeking approval for shallow embedment. Shallow embedment approved RFI 4275.

• (2) still need to be installed at grid lines U.5-U.8/12. Complete.

Observed the following conditions concerning seismic clips for top of masonry walls:

• Level B1 along grid lines U-U.9/14, missing seismic clips – (3) appear to meet specifications and (3) have at least a 1/4” gap between wall and clip with what appears to be shallow embed (no access to see the anchor designation).

Gap and shallow embedment.

• Level B1 along grid lines U-U.9/13.5, grouted on 03/02/21, seismic clips still need to be installed. Completed.• Level B2 along grid lines U.2-U.8/13.6, wedge anchors not yet installed and should be per RFI 3373 with (3) 1/2” Hilti

KB-TZ. Verified anchors were installed per detail 11/S522, RFIs 4358 and 3373.• Level B2 along grid lines S-U.8/12, the third 1/2” Hilti KB-TZ needs to be installed per RFI 3373. See paragraph

above. Completed.
