Scholarship AWard
Pre-dinner
For more than 20 consecutive years, the
ASQ Fox Valley Section has been awarding
scholarships to deserving and high
performing undergraduate and college
bound students. The Scholarship
Committee has once again succeeded in
this comprehensive search to determine
this year's nominees. Mohammad Khan,
Chairman of the Scholarship Committee,
will present a brief overview of the
selection process, and more importantly,
we will get a chance to meet the nominees
and to hear some excerpts from their
essays on “The importance of quality
products and/or services to the future of
our country”.

Members & Colleagues,
Earlier this month, the northern Illinois
region was hit by several devastating
tornadoes, causing extensive damage,
injuries and loss of life. This tragic event
close to home underscores the
importance of having plans in place to be
prepared for any emergency, whether at
work or at home.
We thank those volunteers, local public
safety and disaster relief agencies for
immediately providing support and aid to
the affected communities, and helping
and assisting those impacted by these
tornadoes. Our thoughts and prayers are
with those who have lost so much.
At our last member meeting, the Fox
Valley Section had a “joint meeting” with
APICS. APICS is an association for
Operations Management and is the global
leader and source of the body of
knowledge in operations, production,
inventory, and supply chain management.
We had a great time meeting and
networking with the members from the
APICS Fox River chapter, and we had an
excellent presentation/workshop
meeting. We look forward to having
another “joint” meeting with APICS in the
near future.
The leadership team is committed to
improving the Fox Valley section website
by changing the software platform. A
team has already pre-viewed and
analyzed three (3) new website software
packages and we are waiting for all of the
quotations to be submitted. An
extensive side-by-side comparison will be
made to analyze and determine what
website platform would be best for

serving our members. There is still a
lot of work to do and we will keep
you posted on the milestones and
status of this project.
I am happy and proud to announce
that the Fox Valley section has been
recognized by the ASQ “Performance
Awards & Recognition” (PAR)
committee for the dedication and
achievements of the Section
Leadership Committee (SLC)
members. ASQ has awarded the Fox
Valley Section 1208 a “Bronze” award
for 2014.
This award reflects the hard work,
time and effort that the leadership
committee members do to support
our goals and metrics. This is
something that we all are proud of.
I would like to personally thank all of
the leadership committee members
for continuing to support the
leadership team and its goals, but
more importantly to serve you, our
section members.
I look forward to seeing you at our
next Member Meeting at the St.
Andrews Country Club (West Chicago)
on May 5, 2015.

At previous section programs, several
people have indicated interest in a
“Quality” based Accountability Group/Job
Search Work Team in the Fox Valley area.
Fox Valley ASQ Section 1208 is open to
sponsoring a group at Central DuPage
Hospital in Winfield. Membership is open
to unemployed and under-employed job
seekers that want to stay motivated and
on track in their job search. The benefit
of a career search group is that job
seekers network, encourage and support
each other to keep motivated and on task
in what might otherwise become a very
un-structured time. Online resources are
only part of the career search. It's easy to
get lured into an unproductive vortex. Job
boards can be valuable, but if you really
want to stand out, you'll want to nurture
relationships in-person, reach out and
talk with people face-to-face.
You can try some of these tips: Invite one or more of your past
colleagues for a mini-reunion over coffee or after-hours drinks.
Check in with a past manager to see what's new.
Celebrate with people in your network who have changed jobs or have work anniversaries. Just monitor your LinkedIn home feed for news and updates.
Invite people in your network to attend professional association meetings or other networking events.
Get into a supportive career search group and network into companies before submitting applications.
To join: Email David at
[email protected] with your name,
city/town, email address and phone
number.

Speaker
La Tonja earned a degree in Healthcare
Administration and Masters Degrees in
Human Resources Management and
Public Administration. She is also
certified by the HR Certification Institute
as a Professional in Human Resources
(PHR) since 2011. She is corporate
recruiter with My Future Consulting and
an HR Generalist at the University of
Chicago, whose background includes
over 10 years of experience in finding
top talents in private industries
(manufacturing/distribution, healthcare,
and gaming), non-profit organizations,
and public sector. Her experience also
includes helping people with disabilities
find suitable employment with some of
the leading organizations. Extensive
business and recruitment experience in
various industries provide her with
unique insight into all aspects of the job
Program Details from page 1 search process. She prides herself on the
ability to understand her clients'
organizations and their needs which
positions her well for finding the right
candidate for the right role. She believes
that several years of experience in
understanding customers' needs and
taking a consultative approach in
discussing staffing solutions allow her to
service the needs of her clients.
Quality in a product or
service is not what the
supplier puts in. It is
what the customer gets
out and is willing to pay
for.
A product is not quality
because it is hard to
make and costs a lot of
money, as
manufacturers typically
believe. This is
incompetence.
Customers pay only for
what is of use to them
and gives them value.
Nothing else constitutes
quality. Peter F. Drucker
