This is a 36 hour, four day comprehensive review of medicine and surgery topics. OBJECTIVES The Review consists of lectures to refresh the learner’s knowledge on a wide range of core medical problems and content including reviews of Dermatology, Pediatrics, Fluid and Electrolytes, GI Disorders, Psychiatry, ENT, Ophthalmology, Cardiology, Surgery, Emergency Medicine, Neurological Disorders, Orthopedics, Endocrinology, Pulmonary Disorders, Infectious Disease, HIV/AIDS, Hematology, EKG interpretation, Chest X-ray interpretation, OB-GYN, Rheumatology and other topics. Participants should have a broad base of primary care knowledge that should assist them in passing the national board examinations and to practice up-to-date medical care. The Review Conference is designed based upon the list of topics potentially on the PANCE / PANRE as provided by the NCCPA, and by review of the PANCE / PANRE board exam matrix of question distribution. Obviously, the exact content of the PANCE and PANRE exams is confidential and not known to the developers of the Review Conference, and no suggestion is made that the Review Conference or practice exam questions represent the level of complexity or distribution of topics on the actual examinations. At the conclusion of this course, the participant should be able to: Plan an organized approach to prepare for the PANCE or PANRE; Identify techniques based on learning theory that will enhance exam performance; Utilize testing theory to avoid unnecessary errors; Identify clues in test questions to help choose the correct answer option; Identify evidenced-based clinical knowledge resources to utilize for studying; Apply knowledge of risk factors, prevention and clinical manifestations to arrive at a diagnosis/prognosis to create an initial management plan for several clinical conditions. WHO SHOULD ATTEND This course is designed for all physician assistants preparing for the PA Board Certification/Recertification Examination. This course also serves as an excellent overview for nurse practitioners, family physicians, and others interested in refreshing their knowledge in primary care medicine. CREDIT / ACCREDITATION The Emory University School of Medicine designates this live activity for a maximum of 36 AMA PRA Category 1 Credit(s)™. PAs and Physicians should only claim credit commensurate with the extent of their participation in the activity. The Emory University School of Medicine is accredited by the Accreditation Council for Continuing Medical Education to provide continuing medical education for physicians. MAINTENANCE OF CERTIFICATION The Maintenance of Certification process is built upon six ACGME general competencies that identify the skills and information needed to deliver high-quality care to patients: patient care, medical knowledge, practice- based learning and improvement, interpersonal and communication skills, professionalism, and systems-based practice. This course is designed to meet the educational needs of a national audience of physician assistants.
