The students must come wearing sweatsuit and a cap, and bring a thermos with water. Do not bring any bags.

Kids are going to choose a poem so they can learn a part of it, and recite it to their classmates on September 28th. We would like to invite all grandparents to attend the next Learning Presentations, on October 19th and 20th.

Second Grade How has the way we communicate changed over time? Our Rochester school turns 60! And in our Spanish class we ask ourselves: how did our families communicate and inform themselves in the past? With the help of a rotary phone in our class, we shared very interesting questions with our classmates such as:

1. How did people carry phones, if they were so big? 2. How did the use the phone on street if they had to be

plugged in to call?

We are creating a brochure where students will present many entertaining anecdotes.

Primero ¿Cómo ha cambiado nuestra manera de comunicarnos a través del tiempo? Nuestro colegio Rochester cumple 60 años !! Y en nuestra clase de español nos preguntamos ¿Cómo se comunicaban y se informaban nuestras familia antes? Con la ayuda de un teléfono de disco compartimos con nuestros compañeros preguntas muy interesantes como:

Estamos construyendo un friso en donde escribiremos muchas historias divertidas.

Third Grade students are reading and enjoying “The Conference Of The Birds”, a black and white book that is focused in a proposal for peace and dialogue to solve our differences.

“La conferencia de los pájaros” es un libro a blanco y negro que han empezado a disfrutar los estudiantes de segundo grado y plantea una propuesta por la paz y el diálogo para resolver nuestras diferencias.

Fourth grade students did an outdoor activity where they built up 5 digit numbers to organize and name them. With the activity they applied what they learned about whole numbers and value position.

Los estudiantes de Cuarto Grado realizaron una actividad al aire libre donde formaron números de 5 dígitos para organizarlos y nombrarlos. Allí pusieron en práctica lo aprendido sobre números enteros y valores de posición.

Fifth grade students did The World Counts Poster activity to reflect about the environmental problems that we as a society are facing. They analyzed how numbers can help them understand about water resources and waists produced by humans each year.

Los estudiantes de Quinto Grado realizaron la actividad “The World Counts Poster” para reflexionar acerca de los problemas ambientales que enfrenta nuestra sociedad. Ellos analizaron cómo los números les pueden ayudar a comprender el uso de recursos como el agua y los desechos que produce el hombre cada año.

In Spanish, we are working to strengthen and generate love for our language. Third grade students wrote a story based on a problem where they used new words that we have learned in class and they practiced on how a narrative sequence is organized. We have an exhibition wall of these work which we have titled: "The Writers Of The Week”.

En Español, estamos trabajando para fortalecer y generar amor por nuestro idioma. Los estudiantes de 3º construyeron un cuento a partir de un problema donde utilizaron un número determinado de palabras nuevas y han entendido cómo se organiza una secuencia narrativa. Tenemos un muro de exhibición de estos trabajos el cual hemos titulado: “Los escritores de la semana”.

During these weeks, students felt motivated with the book “Héroes y dioses de la Antigua Grecia” and the short and fascinating stories they find in Lectópolis. They are learning the differences between Myths and Legends and have begun to create the star of their own story, a traditional narrative, in which they join reality with fantasy and that will allow them to let their imagination run free.

En estas semanas, los estudiantes han demostrado motivación con la lectura del libro “Héroes y dioses de la Antigua Grecia” y las cortas y fascinantes historias que encuentran en Lectópolis. De esta manera, están conociendo las diferencias que hay entre los mitos y las leyendas, y han empezado a crear al protagonista de su propia historia, un relato en el que unirán la realidad con la fantasía y les permitirá dejar volar su imaginación.

Imaginative reading has been the basis of the work done by 7th grade students. Differentiating one literary genre from the others, through their main features and having as their main challenge the reading of “El Disco de Troya”, students have designed manual and creative work to demonstrate their understanding, reading comprehension and the knowledge of the elements that constitute this story that mixes pieces of ancient and modern civilizations.

La lectura imaginativa ha sido la base del trabajo de los estudiantes de séptimo grado. Diferenciando un género literario de otro, por medio de sus principales características y teniendo como reto la lectura de “El D i s c o d e T r o y a ” , l o s estudiantes han diseñado trabajo manual y creativo para demostrar su comprensión de lectura y el conocimiento de los elementos que constituyen esta historia que mezcla componentes de civilizaciones ancestrales y modernas.

This year our goal, as English teachers, is to support students learning through interactive activities that are both fun and informative so that they can feel confident and productive beyond the boarders of Colombia or wherever their endeavors may take them. These first days we have been working hard to design interesting classes that helps us accomplish our goals and allow our students to broaden their horizons and explore interests through hands-on, real-life situations. We hope you all feel encouraged to use the language in class and give your best to support us.

Este año, nuestras metas, como profesores de Inglés, se basan en apoyar a los estudiantes en el desarrollo del idioma a través de actividades interactivas, divertidas e informativas para que nuestros estudiantes se sientan seguros y exitosos y así logren destacarse en Colombia o donde sea que sus sueños los lleven. Estos primeros días hemos estado trabajando arduamente para diseñar clases interesantes que nos acerquen a nuestras metas y permitan a nuestros estudiantes ampliar sus horizontes y explorar intereses a través de situaciones de la vida real. Esperamos que todos se sientan animados a usar el idioma en clase y dar lo mejor de cada uno para apoyarnos.

We are pleased to inform you that we have started the process of preparation for the Confirmation Sacrament. It is our hope that participation in this preparation will be a renewal of faith, not only for those who will be confirmed and their families, but for the entire Rochester community. An opportunity to be strengthened with the gifts of the Holy Spirit : Wisdom, Understanding, Counsel, Fortitude, Knowledge, Piety and Fear of the Lord. Parents and students: Please talk at home about this Sacrament to make an informed decision. After the fall break, in October 22nd we will start the formal preparation.
